Judge tells special counsel Mueller to disclose key figures in Paul Manafort case
Source: CNBC
A judge ordered prosecutors Tuesday to tell ex-Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort the identities of key figures in the criminal case against him.
The individuals and groups whose names Manafort demanded are ones who allegedly acted as unregistered foreign agents at his behest.
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said special counsel Robert Mueller's team must hand over the names to Manafort's lawyers by Friday.
That is the same day Manafort is due in court on a request by Mueller to revoke his $10 million bail and jail him because of his alleged efforts to tamper with potential witnesses against him.

(19,240 posts)Or, if they are in the United States, hold their Russian families hostage and threaten to kill them if the witnesses testify.
This is hard ball.

(843 posts)Manafort's lawyers think they are being smart by trying to get the case thrown out over sources protected by the National Intelligence Gathering organizations. Mueller will call their bluff and give the defense names they would prefer not to be entered into trial.
Manafort is going to do hard time.

(15,303 posts)Since I can see this case being derailed by various nefarious characters, I would love to have all collected documents rendered for public viewing. Obviously not wiki-yellow-leaks. I'd trust the ICIJ and/or ProPublica to be a reputable resource. I wonder if there is a "dead-man's" switch on this investigation.

(19,240 posts)It's a simple as that. Would you tell a mobster the identity of the secret government witnesses against him if said witness had family members that could not be placed into protective custody? No.

(19,240 posts)for Mueller to reveal the identity of "foreign agents" who are key witnesses in a case against someone who was working for Putin, when Putin has the power to have said witnesses' friends and family back in Russia jailed and even killed in order to dissuade them from testifying.
This is organized crime. You have to think like organized criminals. The judge in this case has a screw lose--or has been bribed or blackmailed himself. I predict it will go to a higher court.
Witness tampering and intimidation. That is what this is all about. It is what mob trials are always all about. That and the bribes.
