This new poll about Ohio's 2018 election should worry Republicans
Source: Cincinnati Enquirer
COLUMBUS - Even in a strong year for Democrats, Republicans assumed they could count on the Ohio governor's race.
Maybe not.
A new Enquirer / Suffolk University poll the first statewide, independent poll since the Ohio primary showed Democrat Richard Cordray leading Republican Mike DeWine in the governor's race, 43 percent to 36 percent among likely voters.

(23,980 posts)career politicians today's Republican Party has to offer.
And that's saying something, given that I live in the state that Bill Schuette wants to govern.

(17,994 posts)You will find people in Ohio that have disliked DeWine for a long time. That is why we have Sherrod Brown who cast the deciding vote for the ACA after flying back to DC from his Mothers funeral.
DeWine came in on Kasichs coat tails because people blamed Strickland for the Bush recession. Ohio was hurting then. Kasich only won by 2%. Acted as if he won by a landslide. Tried to kill Public Unions. We handed him his head with 1.3 million signatures, then defeated him soundly at the Ballot box.
Then he went underground undermining Education.
DeWine is a political hack of the worst kind hiding behind his RELIGION.

(1,134 posts)DeWine has spent his whole life milking political office in our state, and really needs to be retired. His only accomplishment, if that could be considered one, is to breed almost w/o limit--he has EIGHT kids! He is Trump's age, and has lost about as many steps. Go Richard!

(30,776 posts)The voter purge has been given the go-ahead in your state. Make sure everyone is registered. Check your registrations. Re-register. Have plenty of voter ID. They could cheat you out of your elections.

(17,994 posts)Republicans actually backed it because they were afraid Democrats would be in charge.
Won that overwhelmingly,too.
Husted is the worst. This is the only lawsuit he won and that is because of the Republican Supreme Court!

(6,916 posts)We shouldn't have to register voters - registration is just a tool of voter suppression. Like paying taxes, we should be automatically registered to vote.
But since registration exists, we better ramp it up, because the GOP is trying like hell to suppress votes in Ohio.

(81,527 posts)especially when the next census is taken. There always seem to be complications - some of them rather suspicious (talkin' to YOU, Kenneth Blackwell!). It'd be great to have a Democratic governor overseeing all that, this time.
You've GOTTA have Dems win the tens. The "zero years" - 2020, 2030, 2040, 2050, etc. The CENSUS is taken every ten years. If a Democrat is in charge at the statehouse when the census is taken, its results determine reapportionment of Congressional districts. As we've seen again and again and again, if the GOP controls the governor's chair, there WILL be gerrymandering of districts to benefit the CONS. They will do everything they can to rig the game in their favor, in the ways they re-draw the districts to conform to changes in population numbers. We've SEEN this. And while there are challenges being filed, and court cases being won, those thing take time.
