At odds with Trump over trade, Canadians say they will avoid U.S. goods - Ipsos Poll
Source: Reuters
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Seventy percent of Canadians say they will start looking for ways to avoid buying U.S.-made goods in a threat to ratchet up a trade dispute between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Donald Trump, an Ipsos Poll showed on Friday.
The poll also found a majority of Americans and Canadians are united in support of Trudeau and opposition to Trump in their countries stand-off over the renegotiation of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Despite the tensions, 85 percent of Canadians and 72 percent of Americans said they support being in NAFTA, and 44 percent of respondents in both countries said renegotiation of the deal would be a good thing for their country.

The poll showed 72 percent of Canadians and 57 percent of Americans approved of the way Trudeau had handled the situation, while 14 percent of Canadians and 37 percent of Americans approved of Trumps behaviour.

(19,204 posts)It's a 50 minute drive for me to get to Canada. I think I'll make a run over the border and stock up on Canadian Beer (even though I don't drink, but I can sell it here in a nanosecond) Aluminum, Canadian Bacon, toques, and maple glazed donuts. When the Customs Agent asks if I have anything to declare, I'll say, "I declare Donald Trump is the biggest asshole in this, or any other, universe".
I can then expect to be detained as an enemy combatant and shipped off to Guantanamo ASAP. Sometimes you just have to make a stand for what's right!

(15,373 posts)with the same 37% of brain-dead "Amurikans" that will forgive Orange Twitler no matter what. I am surprised that there are 14% of Canadians who are like them, but at least am encouraged that the percentage is MUCH less.

(17,340 posts)There's always been about a third of the country that is so willing to set aside what America is all about for rule by an authoritarian strongman. In him, they see how they can lord over others in their own, petty lives. They claim to be patriots, but they always respond favorably to Dolt45's Twittersweet siren call of despotism.

(22 posts)... are left-over Stephen Harper-Conservative dead-enders.
They seem to spend all of their time spewing unfounded, dishonest and ill-spelled dithyrambs of hatred about Justin Trudeau in every forum and open comment site they can find. Their content is not notable for being especially accurate or honest. What they are is against Justin Trudeau in particular and the Liberal party in general. They don't like that Justin beat their guy and they hate that he named so many women and visible minorities to his Cabinet.
In 2015 they were claiming that Obama was suckering Justin to sell out Canada for American interests. Since the difference between Trump's and Trudeau's governing styles have been noticed, they have been for Trump. It doesn't matter that Justin contacted all the former Prime Ministers of every stripe to see if they had any suggestions of alternate ways to handle Trump at the G7. And that they all -- including former conservative Prime Ministers Brian Mulroney and Stephen Harper -- agreed unanimously that there was no other way Trudeau could have acted.
That 14% is mostly only against stuff -- Justin Trudeau, the Liberal Party, and Canadian voters; their claim of favouring Trump is, for the most part, if not wholly, contrarian.

(10,437 posts)what happens when canadians stop going to florida? Does trump or most republicans understand how much Canadians spend in the US? I'll clue you in...fucking BILLIONS = jobs...and when they don';t = job losses and bankruptcy. Tired of winning yet? Wait till it dawns on Florida businesses dependent on the Canadian tourist $$$....perhaps voting republican won't happen with them in November.
Additionally what happens if the Canadian govt limits travel to US??? Or gives Canadians a tax credit to travel to Mexico? What happens if Mexico and Canada work together to bypass US altogether with all trade and travel??
How many 10's of thousands of job or 100's of thousands of jobs will americans lose? How many business bankruptcies?
