‘They’re lucky we aren’t executing them’: National Guardsman faces punishment for Facebook post on migrants

..............................................

Since going live on June 16, an online fundraiser of the Texas-based Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, “Reunite an immigrant parent with their child,” has pulled in more than $20 million in donations. Besides providing a financial outlet for giving, the page has also become a sort of informal town hall for opponents of the president’s immigration policy. “Loving our neighbors will keep America great!” one poster wrote over the weekend. “I care,” another added simply.
...................................
“Waste of Money,” a Facebook account belonging to a Salem, Ore., man named Gerod Martin posted on the fundraiser’s page last Wednesday, according to images saved by the Oregonian. “They’re lucky we aren’t executing them.”...................................

.........................................................

Online calls for violence against immigrants have surfaced in recent weeks as the border crisis continues to dominate the national conversation. Last week, the Oregonian reported that an Oregon Department of Transportation employee was placed on leave pending an investigation following an outcry over a Facebook comment.

“I personally think they should shoot them all at the border and call it good,” the state worker, Lori McAllen, wrote online, according to the paper. “It’ll save us hard working AMERICAN’S billions of dollars on our taxes! ”...............................

Trump says almost anything he wants. He has unleashed this visible hate. I place the blame squarely on HIM and his vile mouth!

We seem to have a collective idealism based on 50s-era TV shows like Leave it to Beaver, LOL. I think a lot of it is pent-up hidden fear of anything different, fear of change, fear of losing anything (wealth, prestige, whiteness, etc.), fear of death, and fear of being dead-wrong. We all have primitive, subconscious fears.

Most people have retreated to their protective bubbles of like-minded folks (like DU and Faux News) and we revel in blasting the "other". Why can't we all see we're all on this sinking ship together?

Don't get me wrong - I blame the extreme right for fueling most of our extreme divisiveness. It serves their purposes well while running contrary to our principles.

a vast universe ... and many sit around being hateful to each other ... and others invest lives inventing weapons/methodologies to wipe others off the planet. Humanity has some very serious issues, as one of my friends use to say, a failed extraterrestrial experiment.

10. Republicans are still refusing to use English, writing instead in Republicanese
Mon Jun 25, 2018, 09:27 AM
Jun 2018

EXCERPTS FROM THE OFFICIAL DICTIONARY OF REPUBLICANESE

In Republicanese, many words that sound alike may be spelled differently at random. A few prominent examples:

In Republicanese, the following words may be spelled at random using any of the three ways given:

A.) Two, Too, To
B.) Their, They're, There
c.) Your, Yore, You're

The Republicanese version of Robin Hood therefore starts with "In days of you're...."

The only rule is that the correct use of them as in English is never permitted twice in a row.

Words with single letters that change meaning when a letter is doubled must never be used in correct English context. The classic example is “lose” vs. “loose.” In Republicanese, if you do not win an election, then you “loose” that election. Conversely, if your (Republicanese: you’re) belt is too tight, you need it more “lose” in order to be comfortable. Another example would be the Republicanese, “I met Donald Trump, and he was rudder than I imagined,” vs. “I grabbed the ruder and was able to steer the boat to shore.”

In Republicanese, an apostrophe is used to form a plural, but it must be done at random, never systematically. For example, Bill and Hillary are "the Clinton's," but Bill, Chelsea and Hillary are "the Clintons." The other way around is also correct. In Republicanese, either form is fine as long as it is not spelled the same way twice in a row.

**note that there is not ONE school in the USA, Canada, the UK or Australia that teaches kids to form a plural with an apostrophe. It just isn't done in English. In Republicanese, on the other hand, it is done according to the rule cited in the last paragraph of the excerpt.

I've seen multitudes of these grammatical errors right here on DU.

Instead of being schoolmarmish about it, I dismiss it as due to being poor typing (even though I know it's not).

The only Republicanese I abhor is when they use "Democrat" as an adverb -- as in 45 saying "we need Democrat votes".

But if you point them out you will be accused of being a grammar Nazi because those mistakes don't matter as long as you get your point across. There has been a national dumbing down, maybe because of texting or too much reliance on spell-checking or just plain sloppiness - assuming the fine points of grammar and spelling were taught in school in the first place. The main difference is that GOPers seem to be more likely to display their ignorance of the basics of English grammar on their hand-lettered signs than liberals.
