“I can’t wait for the vigilante squads to start gunning journalists down on sight,” the right-wing nationalist told Observer over text message, in response to a longer feature in development about an Upper East Side restaurant he is said to frequent.

At least four people have been shot at the Capital-Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, the capital of Maryland, Annapolis police said.

Annapolis Police Lt. Timothy Seipp said there had been an "active shooter” at the building and that a subject is in custody.

The Baltimore Sun, which owns the newspaper, says in a post on the Capital-Gazette website that Phil Davis, a Gazette reporter, says that "multiple people had been shot."

A shooting has occurred at the Capital Gazette in Anne Arundel County, a paper that is owned by The Baltimore Sun, according to reports from Gazette staff.

Anne Arundel County Police confirmed there was an “active shooter” at 888 Bestgate Road, where the newspaper’s offices are located. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives confirmed it was responding to a “shooting incident” at the Gazette.

Phil Davis, a Gazette reporter, said that multiple people had been shot. Police did not immediately respond to requests for further information.

Untrue about facial recognition and fingerprints. The newspaper office was specifically targeted. The suspect is a MD resident.

Tom Winter of NBC News reported the shooter's identity as Jarrod Ramos, 38. Ramos had a beef with the paper. He apparently filed a defamation lawsuit in 2012 that was thrown out by the court in 2015. It seems this assault is not the result of the current political climate, but the culmination of a long-standing grievance against the newspaper.
