Refugee families at a low-income apartment complex were attacked Saturday night by a man who stabbed nine people more than any other attack in Boise's history, police said. Four of them suffered injuries that police called life-threatening.
A 30-year-old man was quickly taken into custody at gunpoint, police said. All of the victims were taken to a hospital.
Boise Police Chief Bill Bones hinted that some victims may be children: "The age range of the victims varies dramatically, and it's affected all aspects of the families within the apartments," he said.
The motive for the attack was not immediately known, and neither was the relationship between the suspect and the victims, Bones said at an 11 p.m. news conference. It also was not immediately clear whether all of the victims were refugees.

(16,104 posts)Not to diminish the pain and suffering - and potential loss of life possible - but this is the typical headline when there is NO GUN involved in the violent act.

(49,000 posts)I never expected to see such a comment here though I would not be surprised to see a RW site projecting that onto us.
I do not expect a reply from you because I think you would go into rather strained contortions if you did try to extricate yourself from the corner you have backed into.

(19,233 posts)I know I'm not alone when my mental image of the assailant was initially a MAGA-hat-wearing white guy.

(49,000 posts)Not the part about being tRump inspired. He may well be. The other part. I don't think those kind of assumptions, made by some, should be the "end of the thread". If it were to be the "end of the thread", it would mean DU would be a racist site, which it is not, regardless of however much the person I responded to might think DU is a racist site.

(3,185 posts)I'd be willing to bet very, very large amounts of money that if we polled DUers who read the story on what race they'd expect the attacker to be, the vast majority would have said "young white male." Just like most would have thought that the attacker would be a Trump supporter.
It may turn out this was some kind of domestic dispute or something of that kind, or the guy may be mentally ill. At this point, we don't know. But again, I'd be willing to bet heavily that most of the readers of DU would have made those assumptions.

(37,748 posts)Many were hoping this was anyone but a "young white male."
But then, I'm not a betting man, just a guy who observes patterns.

(6,241 posts)It has 24 posts. There's been one death. a three year old girl.
The one about the AA woman that was denied the use of a restroom at Circle K has 63 posts. And while it was bad for her, no one died.

(235 posts)If the assailant were a white MAGA hat-wearing Trumpist, there's be 150 posts on this thread by now and you know it.
"I never expected to see such a comment here..."
Really? You have 25,000 posts and you've never seen such a comment?

(49,000 posts)despite your contention that it should or would be the end of the thread.
I think that the lack of indications (so far) that he might be a tRump follower is the main cause of lack of comments.
Yes, I'm a bit shocked that his race is the object of your scrutiny and contention about DU. Race-focus goes both ways; sometimes anti-racists are too race-conscious for their own good. But I would hope that it would not get projected onto the rest of DU.

(14,490 posts)A lot of love is needed here.... An event like this is the last thing a low-income family needs considering potential fracturing of the families, the high cost of treatment and transportation, interruption of income - all possibly leading to them losing their housing.
Note that we rarely hear about those hangover effects after a crime like this one. The stress on the poor in our country is horrible. Poverty, high crime rates, increasing cost of living, psychological stress from being demeaned by far too many, and little hope for the future is not a good environment to raise a family and live a happy life.
These conditions lead desperate people to do things they would not normally even think of doing. Of course, there's always the occasional insane individual that is present in any group of humans.
