Trump: Critics 'Better Just Take It Easy'

..............................President Trump on Sunday urged his critics to take it easy, claiming those protesting his policies are very dangerous for the country.
In an interview on Fox News Sunday Morning Futures, the president was asked what he could do to bring the country together amid a wave of criticism and public protests against his administration. He responded by first praising his one-of-a-kind base before issuing a word of caution to critics. Theres probably never been a base in the history of politics in this country like my base, he said, adding, I hope the other side realizes that they better just take it easy. Because some of the language used, some of the words used, even some of the radical ideas, I really think theyre very bad for the country. I think theyre actually very dangerous for the country, he said.

Asked about bringing the country together, Trump subtly implies that his base will kick the shit out of liberals if they keep it up.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jun/13/how-to-report-trump-media-manipulation-language
Trump knows the press has a strong instinct to repeat his most outrageous claims, and this allows him put the press to work as a marketing agency for his ideas. His lies reach millions of people through constant repetition in the press and social media. This poses an existential threat to democracy.
Language works by activating brain structures called frame-circuits used to understand experience. They get stronger when we hear the activating language. Enough repetition can make them permanent, changing how we view the world.
Scientists, marketers, advertisers and salespeople understand these principles. So do Russian and Islamic State hackers. But most reporters and editors clearly dont. So the press is at a disadvantage when dealing with a super salesman with an instinctive ability to manipulate thought by 1) framing first 2) repeating often, and 3) leading others to repeat his words by getting people to attack him within his own frame.

(4,522 posts)His base is more activated when then think their savior is under attack and that they are part of the "plan".
He's using hard-wired basic instinct strategy to tell his followers to prepare for battle - figuratively and quite possibly literally.

Back then Republicans in Congress wouldn't pull the trigger, not because they loved democracy but because they weren't stupid and could imagine the personal consequences when the tide turned.
So the GOP got a bunch dumb as dirt Tea Party candidates in who are a little shaky on abstract thinking or imagining the future. They would probably go along with fascism if given the opportunity, but Trump does not have the trust of our financial elite, ironically, I think more because of his willingness to have peaceful relations with Russia, not because of all his racism, corruption, personal moral squalor, and profound mental and psychological unfitness for any public office.

That 40% of the country can control/ try to control the narrative for "the American people" is simply appalling. The silent majority had better come out and make their voices heard. I know we outnumber "them" and it is time to let "them" see with their own eyes and hear with their own ears that "they" are the minority!

You didn't think all those beds in the holding centers, and the ones being set up on military bases, were just for migrants, did you? They're setting up far more beds than are needed for the number of migrants that we're dealing with. Who else are they planning to imprison, I wonder?

(17,781 posts)They don't plan very well, if they plan at all. It's rule by knee jerk stupidity and more times than not blows up in their face. The whole border separation idea is a case in point. A policy not terribly well thought out. Sometimes I wonder if they are even capable of fully and skillfully gaming out ANY policy.

(4,281 posts)Andrew Jackson, James Buchanan, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush all had roughly the same sort of supporters. And probably others. We've dealt with these people many times before. Crude, racist, elitist, white supremacist bullies always think they should get their way on every little detail, and everybody else should just shut up, cower in terror, and race around frantically trying to read their minds and do their bidding without even adequate instructions or provisions.
