Powerful GOP Rep. Jim Jordan accused of turning blind eye to sexual abuse
Source: NBC News
Rep. Jim Jordan, the powerful Republican congressman from Ohio, is being accused by former wrestlers he coached more than two decades ago at Ohio State University of failing to stop the team doctor from molesting them and other students.
The university announced in April that it was investigating accusations that Dr. Richard Strauss, who died in 2005, abused team members when he was the team doctor from the mid-1970s to late 1990s.
Jordan, who was assistant wrestling coach at the university from 1986 to 1994, has repeatedly said he knew nothing of the abuse until former students began speaking out this spring. His denials, however, have been met with skepticism and anger from some former members of the wrestling team.
Three former wrestlers told NBC News that it was common knowledge that Strauss showered regularly with the students and inappropriately touched them during appointments, and said it would have been impossible for Jordan to be unaware; one wrestler said he told Jordan directly about the abuse

For people like Hastert, Sandusky, Nasser and now this guy, what better place to find victims that working around them as a football coach, wrestling coach, women's gymnastic coach, etc?

(33,643 posts)College students are (with rare exceptions) adults, and IIRC there was evidence of more than just 'inappropriate touching' with Sandusky.
This whole thing sounds very suspicious, of course, but it's not nearly at the Sandusky level (of course that's assuming we've heard the worst of it).
At THIS point, I'm not sure it's going to be enough to take him down. Although the fact that it involved 'looking past the ghey' ... it might embarrass the GOP enough to actually do something, worried their dipshit voters will be offended for THAT reason (not the inappropriateness of what the dude was doing).
Though I definitely appreciate the effort, and it's worth a shot!

(15,246 posts)There's been lots of emphasis on respecting college co-eds, who are also adults. Why should abuse against young adult males be viewed differently?

(33,643 posts)Trust me, I'm not saying that this is all hunky-dory, because it's a male not a female, or not a child or teen... I AM saying ... I'm just not sure these allegations against Jordan are going to be enough to get the guy ousted by his also-mostly-perverted GOP cohorts. And that's mostly cause ... they're not 'kids'.
Hell, what am I saying, rethugs would've welcomed an actual perp, involving teens ... Roy Moore ...
However, I will DANCE A JIG if I'm wrong. HATE me some Jim Jordan.
Now ... if it could be shown or reasonably alleged that Jordan, OTOH, told students to keep their trap shut and tell nobody about it, or worse, that they'd better go along with it? THAT is where he'd cross to the level that NOBODY is going to be able to justify.
meow2u3
(24,745 posts)Especially given that he allegedly turned a blind eye to sexual abuse of young males. I'm about sure his district (which is conservative) won't take kindly to abuse of boys or young men, but then again the voters might turn a blind eye to coaches who allow young guys to be abused.

If true, Jordan needs to step down, and then be charged w/ endangerment of a minor, or something like this.

Conservatives don't believe in gay men getting married or living together, but as long as you're just molesting teenage boys they're totally cool with it.
Conservative ideology says it's only a sin for two men to live together. Sexual assault is an integral component of Christian existence.

(93,878 posts)Republican Rep. Jim Jordan is denying a report that he turned a blind eye to alleged sexual abuse at Ohio State University when he was an assistant wrestling coach.
An NBC News report published Tuesday alleged the powerful Ohio congressman was aware of allegations that a doctor was molesting members of the wrestling team when he was an assistant wrestling coach from 1986 to 1994, but that he ignored those claims of abuse.
CNN has not confirmed the details of the NBC report. Jordan's office denied that he knew of any such behavior in two separate statements Tuesday.

(50,453 posts)They claim Strauss raped between 1500 and 2000 boys over a period of 20 years.
If a "year" is a 270-day college year, then:
at 1500 boys he committed one rape every 3.6 days
at 2000 boys he committed one rape every 2.7 days
If a "year" is a 365-day full year, then:
at 1500 boys he committed one rape every 4.9 days
at 2000 boys he committed one rape every 3.7 days
If this is true, Jordan doesn't need to resign. He needs to commit seppuku in front of the gym where he let this occur.

A news report on Tuesday accusing Representative Jim Jordan of ignoring accusations of sexual abuse as a wrestling coach at Ohio State University has left a cloud over the powerful congressman as conservative activists put him forward as potentially the next speaker of the House.
The university announced in April that it had started an investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct against a former team physician, Dr. Richard Strauss, who killed himself in 2005.
The report, by NBC News, said that three former wrestlers said it was commonly known that Dr. Strauss showered with students and touched them inappropriately during appointments, and that Mr. Jordan, an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State from 1986 to 1994, must have known about the abuse. Mr. Jordan, a Republican, has denied that.
Jim knew this theres no ifs, ands or buts, Michael DiSabato, one of the former wrestlers named in the NBC account, said Tuesday in an interview. It boggles my mind that he would take the position that hes taken.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/ex-wrestler-says-rep-jim-jordan-witnessed-lewd-shower-acts-coach-ohio-state-001134484.html
DiSabato described an environment where student-athletes shared a shower with multiple staff and faculty members who were involved in lewd acts that included public masturbation and excessive soaping of their groin area.
Despite Rep. Jim Jordan's denials, ex-Ohio State wrestler Mike DiSabato maintains Jordan knew of abuse allegations: "I talked to Jim Jordan These conversations were not individual conversations, they were with a group of athletes" https://t.co/IplsCFDsrn
CNN Newsroom (@CNNnewsroom) July 4, 2018
Dr Strauss was one of those that took a lot of showers and soaped himself a lot, DiSabato saidl. So, when you look at the definition of sexual abuse and sexual assault and Jim Jordan just went on record saying he knew about the facilities he took showers with us. He saw Dr. Strauss and others perform these kinds of acts in front of us.
I will bet within the next 2 weeks Jordan will resign his seat.

President Donald Trump said Thursday that he believes Rep. Jim Jordans (R-OH) denial that he knew anything about the systematic sexual abuse described by former members of the Ohio State University wrestling team, of which Jordan was once an assistant coach.
I dont believe them at all, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, according to pool reporter Todd J. Gillman of The Dallas Morning News. I believe him.
Jim Jordan is one of the most outstanding people Ive met since Ive been in Washington, Trump continued. I believe him 100 percent. No question in my mind. I believe Jim Jordan 100 percent. Hes an outstanding man.
Jordan has denied several former wrestlers accusation that he knew about, and intentionally ignored, the systematic sexual abuse of students by the late Dr. Richard Strauss.
