Pfizer hikes prices on 100 drugs

Source: The Hill

BY AVERY ANAPOL - 07/03/18 08:30 PM EDT

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer raised prices on about 100 drugs this week, the second round of increases for the company this year.

Overall, many of the drugs’ prices have increased by double-digit percentages this year, according to Ars Technica. The Financial Times first reported the price hike.

Among the drugs who have seen price hikes are Viagra, the erectile disfunction drug, and Norvasc blood pressure pills.

. . .

President Trump has vowed to address high drug costs, and said in May that drug companies would “voluntarily” begin to reduce prices in the coming weeks.

Trump Psychic Network. Once again Trump shows his psychic abilities by being 100% wrong about what corporations will do when he gives them mammoth tax breaks. And he's not finished! He wants to give them further tax breaks!

We can't afford your psychic predictions, Little Donnie.

Amlodipine, whose generic is very inexpensive.

However, the NON-Generics in that list are cost prohibitive, and that is what they should have focused on.

I assume they choose Amlodipine because it is a very common BP medicine that millions take, but in that case those folks won't be impacted by the price increase if they take the generic form

It is really half-assed reporting, when they could have made a good valid argument to the point

Journalism sure isn't what it used to be

I don't subscribe to the WSJ, and I won't pay for any murdoch owned enterpirse, but I suspect it will be embedded this link:

I suppose they don’t see any irony in paywalling an article about price increases

The one in particular I’m curious about is Xeljanz (which is already pretty pricey, and has previously seen significant increases).

Also, Murdoch owns the WSJ too?

generic, it sure won’t impact those who make generics competition of those generics

amlodipine is the generic for norvasc, just go to GoodRx and you will see how inexpensive the generic. Viagra just went generic this year, and the generic is high, but a lot cheaper than brand name so I find it strange that the article highlights two drugs that are available generically, and cheaper than brand name as their stand out examples, when those two drug are probably the worst example to use, especially amlodipine, which is very cheap

While there may be good examples to show, the examples they used are probably the worst ones because the generic versions are much cheaper

I would need to see the list of drugs affected to see if this is just hyperbole or fact based, and the article doesn’t do much of that, so I have to wonder if this is typical Hill hyperbole or fact based

Addendum:

OK, I found the list, and the non-generic drugs such as Xalkori are cost prohibitive, so the article should have really highlighted those drugs instead of the ones that have gone generic.

It sure would have made the point that they are trying to make

What Happened to Trump's Drug-Price Promises?
An administration official's Senate testimony fails to reassure that relief is coming anytime soon.

(snips)
But it’s now been a month since President Donald Trump promised “voluntary massive drops in prices” from drug companies in two weeks — and there’s been no sign of them.

Presidential statements that diverge from reality are now commonplace. But drug pricing has been a Trump focus, and the subject of a hyped policy plan released last month. That makes the lack of progress particularly glaring.
-------
In the hearing, Azar noted that drugmakers often increase prices around July 1 and that he hopes they’ll show some restraint. That’s a rather notable rhetorical step-down from more grandiose claims by his boss — and a rather tidy encapsulation of how the administration’s drug-pricing efforts have delivered so far.

Another campaign promise bites the dust.....

Funny, that seems to happen with drumpf all the time because he's a chronic liar, that's all he does is lie to hurt others and for personal gain. Whether it's his tiny fingers tweeting or his orange ass mouth moving, he's doing nothing but lying.
