Trump to Avoid London Protests With Tour of English Country Homes

Source: U.S. News & World Report

July 6, 2018, at 11:04 a.m.

BY ANDREW MACASKILL

LONDON (Reuters) - Donald Trump is steering clear of the mass protests in central London that will mark his first visit to Britain as president next week, instead meeting dignitaries outside the capital at country residences and a castle.

Over 50,000 people have signed up for a protest in central London to demonstrate against Trump's perceived racism, sexism, and his treatment of migrants. A counter-gathering to welcome him is also planned.

Trump will hold talks with Prime Minister Theresa May at her 16th-century manor house, meet Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle and attend a black-tie dinner at the home of former World War Two leader Winston Churchill - all outside London.

A spokeswoman for May said on Friday the trip had not been deliberately planned to keep Trump away from protesters and that British people were looking forward to his visit.

That going through the streets of Coventry will not be on President Fart's agenda. Same will apply for Mrs Fart.

not Windsor Palace, 30 mins. away, or Churchill's birthplace Blenheim near Oxford and later home Chartwell in Kent, or Chequers, the Buckinghamshire country home of PM Theresa May. So it's a state sponsored tourist visit to countryside manor homes with an afterwards trip to Scotland where Trump's mother is from and where he has two golf courses.

- Blenheim Palace, near Oxford where Winston Churchill was born.

- Chartwell, Sir Winston Churchill's former home in Kent, England.

- Chequers, country home of UK prime ministers including Theresa May since 1921, Buckinghamshire.

'Sorry, li'l donnie, we just can't control how 95% of our citizens hate your guts.' I'd love to see how the diplomatic communique expressing that fact was worded.

Maybe his hosts can roll a buckboard around the courtyard, with him in it, at the country estate.

I suspect there will be protesters in private fields jeering him and overhead planes flying banners condemning him. I was in London in September of 2015 and people asked us if the American people were daft enough to elect that idiot. At the time I said no way. Boy, was I wrong! There were even editorials in the newspapers highlighting his failures as a businessman. I wish I had kept one of those papers now.

That includes Winfield House, the US Ambassador's residence in Regents Park, London, where Trump is to spend the night. That's how they'll probably move him.

My guess is that they'll drive him around only as a last resort. The protestors won't see him.

Flashback: on the Obamas' last trip to the UK as POTUS/FLOTUS, they traveled to Windsor Castle where they were to lunch with the Queen for her birthday. She and Prince Philip not only went out to meet them at the helicopter landing area, but quite unexpectedly, Prince Philip himself chauffeured them all back to the castle proper.
