Source: BBC
Ryker Gamble, Alexey Lyakh and Megan Scraper were part of High On Life, who post videos of their travel adventures.
The group said: "They were three of the warmest, kindest and most driven and outgoing people you could ever meet."
Police said the trio were swimming at the top of Shannon Falls in British Columbia on Tuesday when they "slipped and fell into a pool 30m (98ft) below".

(12,618 posts)But I will never understand why people swim in water right next to waterfalls. It happens all the time in Yosemite in Cali. There are signs all over at the top of the waterfall warning people not to go in, yet they do, and often, it's the last thing they ever do.
You only get one life. Don't waste it on something stupid.

(2,728 posts)Looks like they had a history of pushing boundaries tho. Per the article, the group had a 5 year ban to US Federal lands due to vandalizing/walking on sensitive hot springs while at Yellowstone.

(5,914 posts)People are so desperate to be Internet celebrities that they will, naturally, jeopardize their very lives for those precious lovely web hits. But there IS a real life outside of the web, and you only get one of those.
Oh, well, I guess we can resort to that old standby, "They died doing what they loved: leaving their families and friends in tears and mourning".

(6,578 posts)Two Canadians who received jail time for walking on Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park in 2016 have died in their latest outdoor adventure.
An announcement about the deaths of Megan Scraper, Alexey Lyakh, and Ryker Gamble came on the High On Life groups Facebook page.
The three reportedly died on July 3; their bodies were found by Canadian Federal Police at the bottom of a 100-foot waterfall. The trio was allegedly walking along the edge.
In May of 2016, Lyakh and Scraper were seen walking across the Grand Prismatic Springs in a video posted to the groups page.
The High On Life group was subsequently issued violation notices from Zion National Park, Death Valley National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Corona Arch (BLM), and Bonneville Salt Flats (BLM).
They didn't think rules or boundaries applied to them. They were in a dangerous area when this happened. Play Russian Roulette long enough, the bullet will spin against you finally.

(5,042 posts)I used to meet people like this when I worked in state wetlands and parks. They think because they have some sort of "awareness about the environment" it gives them permission to break the rules as the rules are set for the plebes.

(17,876 posts)People who don't know better, but should get killed on waterfalls, whitewater accidents, jumping into river pools....ugh! It's just the normal summer course of events here in western NC. 6 deaths here so far and we're barely into July.
I feel sorry for them and their families, but some of the stories are stupidity raised to an art form.
