Elvis Costello reveals cancer diagnosis, cancels tour dates
Source: Portland Press Herald
Elvis Costello canceled the six remaining shows of his summer European tour with his band, the Imposters, on Friday, revealing that he had undergone surgery for a small but very aggressive cancerous malignancy and recovery required his full attention.
The 63-year-old singer released a statement via his website. He said he had received the diagnosis from his doctor six weeks ago and, upon learning that surgery recommended three to four weeks of recovery, was delighted to continue with the tour as scheduled.
It was impossible to judge how this advisory would line up with the demands on a traveling musician, playing 90-minute to 2-hour plus performances on a nightly basis but by the time we reached the Edinburgh Playhouse, I was almost fooled into thinking that normal service had been resumed, he wrote.
In late June, Costello canceled two concerts citing recovery issues.

The director of Grace of My Heart wanted an original song that sounded Brill Building-esque. She got Elvis to collaborate with Burt Bacharach. they had such a good time working together they did a whole album together and it's WONDERFUL.

(43,027 posts)as far as I know. But you know I'm sort of pop culture light. Very light.
The musicians in my family never made any sense to me, they tried to get me to play an instrument but I would never practice.

(48,939 posts)The Heatwave Festival was an incredible show. He was top of the bill at night, followed only by a weaker act to help clear out the crowds with less of a rush.

(9,256 posts)And incredibly prolific. I consider myself a huge fan and have seen him in concert maybe 5 times in the past few years (he tours a lot) and he always manages to throw in a song I never heard before. His recent autobiography is quite a read.
Get well soon Elvis. Your music makes my life better.

(52,113 posts)But the Beatles knew each other really well, all four of them wrote songs, etc.
Elvis cranks them out with different people he's never played with before and completely different styles.

(51,564 posts)From what he writes he had a male related cancer, I can only guess that it involved his prostate. It seems like his doctor is pretty damn good and Elvis actually listened to his advice.
"While Costello did not reveal any specifics regarding his diagnosis, he did close with a request for his male fans, urging them to talk to their friends."
Youll find you are not alone seek your doctors advice if you are in doubt or when it is timely and act as swiftly as you may in these matters. It may save your life, he wrote.
Believe me, it is better than playing roulette, Costello added.
Costellos statement is available to read in full on his website.
I think it sounds like good news! Both he and his doctors are on tip of it.
