US soybean farmers warn Trump trade war with China will cause 'serious damage'

American soybean farmers are warning that President Trumps trade dispute with China will result in serious damage to their industry. The American Soybean Association (ASA) said in a statement that soybean farmers rely heavily on exports to China, and said that they lobbied Trump to reconsider the tariffs.
John Heisdorffer, an Iowa soybean farmer and president of the ASA, warned of the impact of the tariffs on farmers.
Soybeans are the top agriculture export for the United States, and China is the top market for purchasing those exports, Heisdorffer said in the statement. The math is simple. You tax soybean exports at 25-percent, and you have serious damage to U.S. farmers.
Soybeans are among the U.S. products, along with orange juice, whiskey, electric cars and others, that are threatened by retaliatory tariffs from China.

(4,032 posts)Hey, I have an idea to help soybean farmers. Simply have the soybean association stuff a few million dollars in an old rumpled duffle bag and direct it to the unpopularly elected King of the Unites States in Washington, DC. He likes money. Or, better yet, (or in conjunction with the duffle bag of ill-gotten booty) build a Trump casino in the middle of a field somewhere that will feature Russian strippers pissing on clientele and give discount rates to Russian, Chinese and North Korean officials and their minions, say like traitor Ron Johnson and his ilk of seven blowhards who pretended to beg for election mercy from a bunch of proven tyrants.
BINGO! Problem solved.

(5,969 posts)Neither the consumers nor producers profit from trade wars. But I can almost hear them: Please take back the tariffs or compensate us and just continue with separating those brown families, that was fine.
It's also funny reading the comments. Maggots who rail against big government but who say that the farmers will be bailed out by government programs due to these price variations. Welfare queens?

(6,931 posts)Between that and soy it will take Kansas farmers out. As of 2012 there were around 62,000 farms in Kansas. You know....the ones who mostly voted 90%+ for Donald Trump.
