Red-state Democratic senators refuse Trump's invite to White House Supreme Court announcement
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN) Four red-state Democrats refused President Donald Trump's invitation to attend his Supreme Court nominee announcement Monday night at the White House, according to their offices.
Democratic Sens. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Doug Jones of Alabama, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Joe Donnelly of Indiana were invited for the announcement.
"Sen. Heitkamp was invited but isn't able to attend tonight," her spokesperson said in a statement. "She has made clear -- as she said to the President in person two weeks ago -- that she considers fully vetting Supreme Court nominees one of the most important jobs of any U.S. senator, and she plans to fulfill that critical duty."
Manchin's spokesperson also said he wasn't planning to attend and the senator said later in a tweet that he appreciated the invitation from Trump.

(51,570 posts)What we must do is CALL CALL CALL nonstop the 4 Dems who rep red states (Donnelly, Heitkamp, Jones and Manchin) and the two GOP senators (Murkowski and Collins). Don't believe them or trust them...just hammer them with town halls, letters, protests, harass them at lunch, going out to eat, etc. Be civil though.

Of course, calling the Democratic Senators is cool.
I would buy them lunch (the dems), and sound the repugs.

(987 posts)I don't want to give him the ratings. I will put the TV on some inane show that will hopefully beat him in ratings. Then over the next few weeks I will hear all the talking heads giving their opinions and if trump falls down walking to the podium the networks will show it over and over.

Im going outside and touch up the collimation on my 12-inch reflector telescope. Tonight and for much of the summer Venus is bright in the western sky; Jupiter is high in the south; Saturn is in the SE with its rings turned almost directly toward us; and, Mars is rising around midnight and is close enough to observe the polar ice caps.
Not a cloud in the sky, low humidity and from my very dark location in rural Virginia, its a great night for astronomy!!

(18,619 posts)They're like the battered spouse that absorbs abuse and continues to tearfully say: "but I love him".
They've both crossed the line repeatedly to reach out to support Trump, only to have him denounce both and demand their ouster. He has a lot of nerve to even invite them.

(24,253 posts)all six of them will vote in favor of him. Once Collins and Murkowski are solid for him and they have the votes, Schumer will give the Democrats "permission" to go ahead and vote for him, too, since it won't change the outcome.
I hope I'm wrong.
