President Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court during a prime-time address from the White House. USA TODAY
WASHINGTON Hundreds of activists gathered on the steps of the United States Supreme Court on Monday night to protest Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump's nominee to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Kavanaugh is a federal appellate judge on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. He was a former clerk for Kennedy and investigated Bill Clintons affair with Monica Lewinsky.
Though President Trump announced his pick at 9 p.m. Monday, activists have been mobilizing against whomever the nominee might be since June 27, when Kennedy announced his retirement.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Va., told the crowd of protesters that they should be ready to challenge the nomination.
Are you ready for a fight? Are you ready to defend Roe vs. Wade?" Sanders said. This is a tough fight but it is a fight that we can win . . . We have the American people on our side, now we have to go state by state by state to make sure senators do what their constituents want..........................

Every single judge on @realDonaldTrumps short list for the Supreme Court has been pre-approved by right-wing extremists. They've shown their willingness to side with the wealthy & powerful over the rights of women, workers, voters, & minorities. But we're ready to fight back.

Brett Kavanaugh is an anti-consumer zealot, an opponent of preexisting condition protections, a critic of abortion rights and access to contraception, a Second Amendment radical, and a bad choice for the Supreme Court.
Not a close call. I will vote NO.

Two decades after Brown v. Board, I was only the second class to integrate at Berkeley public schools. Without that decision, I likely would not have become a lawyer and eventually be elected a Senator from California.

(15,805 posts)rightwing court packing? The GOP and their entire demonic cabal have been laboring to reach this goal for years, if not decades, but where was our side?
Democrats work hard to try to find consensus, but they forget that Republicans don't want comity, they want to eat our hearts and suck the marrow from our bones. Deep down we all know that, but we repeatedly enter the lists with a starry eyed sense honor and fair play, actors in a macabre replay of Groundhog Day.
It would be one thing if it was just one thing, you know, like the courts, but the Republicans are also scoring points in voter suppression, and controlling state legislatures, the growth of corporate power, religious extremism, fake news and a crippled education system... it's a damned long list that has very few Democratic victories over the GOP efforts to make this country unrecognizable.

(8,910 posts)He stated that:
So basically what he is saying, that a sitting President can commit any crime he wants, including obstruction of justice and never be prosecuted for any crimes?
Welcome to the Dictatorship of the United States.
This is completely ridiculous, and now he could be the next Supreme Court justice?
