The Senate Republicans and Democrats who are being watched most closely in the fight to confirm President Trumps newly-minted Supreme Court pick were not eager to show their cards the day after the selection of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy was announced.
I am going to be able to give you more of a reaction after I have an opportunity for more thorough review, said Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), whose support for Kavanaugh is crucial given her role in sinking the Senate GOPs Obamacare repeal efforts and her position in favor of abortion rights, which could be at risk if Kavanaugh is confirmed.
Look at my statement, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), who is facing a costly re-election battle, said repeatedly when asked about his thoughts on the judge.
Republicans leaders said they were hopeful that theyd be able to secure bipartisan support for Kavanaugh, an extremely conservative judge on the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C. With the margin tight a single Republican defection could tank the nominee if Democrats unanimously oppose him there is already pressure from Kavanaughs supporters on red state Democrats to back Kavanaugh. Three Democrats voted in favor of confirming Trumps first Supreme Court pick, Justice Neil Gorsuch.

(7,725 posts)This guy is a security problem and warrants many hearings to see how deep it goes. Helping Bush win against Gore, And everything since. Up to dt and Kennedy collaborating to give up his seat. That's not how the game is played. At some point the chicanery just pegs out the bul;lshit ometer. They need to testify so that every gop who votes for him...does so w open eyes. This is going to take a while...too bad we have no Al Franken w the stones to be tough on him.
Anybody seen Al??
It could be said Kennedy has been in the know on ALL the voting irregularities durng the entire Bush Admin., and thinks winning at any cost for Jesus or his party is just fine. Forgivable even. Oh no. no no no. The Supreme Court is the last court in the land. This should wait until after the people speak. If the Court is going to be openly partisan...then it's the Democratic way to wait til after the next election. Especially when our whole D institution is falling apart. Has to wait for the vote.
Seems our elected officials need to start reading the rules about holding/participating in hearings and alll the things in between. Bc they are going to be called on to earn their pay.
