Paul Manafort has phone, email, 'VIP' treatment in jail, prosecutors say

Paul Manafort has told people he is being treated like a “VIP” in jail, where he has his own phone and computer, writes emails and does not have to wear a uniform, according to a court filing Wednesday.

In arguing that Manafort’s July 25 trial in Alexandria federal court on bank and fraud charges should not be delayed, prosecutors said the former Trump campaign manager has been fully able to prepare while incarcerated in Northern Neck Regional Jail. Moreover, attorneys for Robert S. Mueller III’s special counsel probe say Manafort wants the trial delayed only for strategic reasons.

He speaks to his attorneys every day and often multiple times a day, they said. While the calls are limited to 15 minutes in length, there is no limit on how many calls he can make. “Among the unique privileges Manafort enjoys at the jail are a private, self-contained living unit, which is larger than other inmates’ units, his own bathroom and shower facility, his own personal telephone, and his own workspace to prepare for trial,” the prosecutors wrote. “Manafort is also not required to wear a prison uniform. On the monitored prison phone calls, Manafort has mentioned that he is being treated like a ‘VIP.’”

Manafort has also “developed a workaround” to send emails, which jail prisoners normally would not be allowed to do, according to prosecutors: “In order to exchange emails, he reads and composes emails on a second laptop that is shuttled in and out of the facility by his team. When the team takes the laptop from the jail, it re-connects to the Internet and Manafort’s emails are transmitted.”

...when he tried to contact witnesses and tamper with their testimony. That's why he's in jail, and for no other reason.

Putin has no reason to go near Manafort, unless he decides to flip. If that happens he'll get a new identity and disappear.
At least that would be my guess. I don't know how Paulie-boy would save his wife and daughters if he flips though.

his, "not required to wear a prison uniform" bit that may or may not be true but once he
is sent away after his trial he will be rocking the prison uni of that facility.

Manafort is just trying to bluster his way to having the public think he isn't in jail.

After seeing the hell some people I've known go through in the justice system, there's something sickening about executive privilege for some in jail. We seem to be totally consumed by economic inequality in all aspects of our lives these days.

Where the hell does Manafort get all the money for this kind of treatment?
