Charges Dropped Against Stormy Daniels After Ohio Strip Club Arrest

Source: Talking Points Memo/AP

By ANDREW WELSH-HUGGINS | July 12, 2018 1:14 pm

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Charges were dropped Thursday against porn actress Stormy Daniels, just hours after she was arrested while performing at an Ohio strip club and charged with letting patrons touch her in violation of a state law. Her attorney said she was set up in a Columbus police sting operation, something police deny.

Charging documents say Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, was arrested for touching a patron at a “sexually oriented” business in violation of the law commonly known as the Community Defense Act.

The documents said that Daniels, who was semi-nude, allegedly touched some of the patrons’ breasts and allowed them to touch her. She allegedly performed the same act with several officers who approached the stage and forced one officer’s head into her bare chest.

She was released on bail before 6 a.m. Thursday. Daniels posted $6,000.

That occur in the city of Columbus proper, only felonies and Franklin county proper misdemeanors. Zack Klein Columbus city atty office prosecutes misdemeanors in Columbus and is the office that dropped the charges.

LCOLUMBUS (WCMH/AP) -- Charges against porn actress Stormy Daniels were dropped Thursday hours after she was arrested at a Columbus strip club for allegedly letting patrons touch her in violation of a state law, her attorney said Thursday.

According to a tweet from her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, the Columbus City Attorney's office approved a motion to dismiss the charges against Daniels.

Columbus City Attorney Zack Klein released the following statement Thursday afternoon:

My office has reviewed the charges filed by the Columbus Division of Police, and I’ve determined that these crimes were not committed, based on the fact that Ms. Clifford has not made regular appearances at this establishment as required under the law. We’ll do the same inquiry for the other defendants involved, as well. My office was not involved in this sting operation, so any additional questions about it must be directed to the Columbus Division of Police. The charges have been dismissed

Don't cops in Columbus, a city with one of the highest crime rates in the nation, have anything better to do? This case may not be over.

You can't have any respect for a woman who does pornography stuff, and Sarah Sanders would never do pornography stuff. So there's the Republican case.

(And now I have to go wash my brain of the image I just created in my mind of a Huckabee in a g-string.)

Officials said Stormy Daniels’ arrest at a strip club in Columbus, Ohio was a “mistake” due to a misinterpretation of the law she broke, the Associated Press reports. Columbus police chief Kim Jacobs said “one element of the law was missed in error” when Daniels was arrested on Wednesday night for “illegally rubbing undercover police officers’ faces against her bare breasts,” since the law is only applicable to those who “regularly” perform at strip clubs and Daniels’ performance was her first time at the venue. “A mistake was made, and I accept full responsibility,” Jacobs said hours after prosecutors dropped the three misdemeanor charges against Daniels. Jacobs also said that the “motivations” of the officers will be “reviewed internally.” Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti posted unsubstantiated screenshots of what he said were pro-Trump social media posts by the arresting officer. Daniels, who is currently suing President Trump after she claimed to have an affair with him before he became president, is currently on a tour performing at strip clubs around the country.
