Source: Austin American-Statesman
The U.S. Army has selected Austin as the site for its Futures Command center, according to published reports.
The Bloomberg news service was first to report the development Thursday.
Austin had been one of five finalists, along with Boston, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and Raleigh, N.C.
Austin fits the mission as a city of innovation a community that promotes creativity, entrepreneurship and diversity, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin, told the American-Statesman. We will now play a leading role in ensuring our national security. Together with our supportive neighbor, San Antonio, already known as Military City, we have a partnership that will help our local economies by helping to secure our country.

(12,210 posts)If it is, I'm applying. I should be qualified for a command rand of at least, Lt. Colonel.
My qualifications: I watch Flash Gordon defeat the Emperor Ming and the Mud People. I watched Buck Rodgers. I watched "Captain Video and his Video Rangers." I saw Star Wars 1 on the opening day.
I even watched "Tom Corbett, Space Cadet." Opening lines of Tom's theme song:
"From the rocket fields of the academy,
To the far flung stars of outer space,
We are space cadets training to be,
Ready for dangers we may face.
Who is more qualified than me?
