McCain to Trump: Cancel meeting if you won't hold Putin accountable
Source: The Hill
GOP Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) said on Friday if President Trump isn't prepared to hold Russian President Vladimir Putin "accountable" for aggression toward the United States then he should cancel their meeting next week.
"President Trump must be willing to confront Putin from a position of strength and demonstrate that there will be a serious price to pay for his ongoing aggression towards the United States and democracies around the world. If President Trump is not prepared to hold Putin accountable, the summit in Helsinki should not move forward," McCain said in a statement.

McCain added on Friday that the indictments were the latest in a "body of evidence confirming an extensive plot" by Putin's government to influence the election and "sow chaos and dissension" within America.
"Despite repeated warnings from our nations top intelligence and military leaders, the Kremlin's efforts to weaken our institutions have continued unabated with insufficient action taken by the administration or Congress to strengthen our cyber defenses, safeguard our election systems, and deter further destabilizing activities," he said.

He's compromised. An asset of the Kremlin.
This charade of bewilderment about the reason for his actions is getting tiresome.

Wish the tables were reversed yesterday and have Strzok and the FBI interrogate them. Would bet many of them know more about the involvement of their colleagues that they are afraid to tell.

I can imagine any/all of the titular items, but there may be some more interesting ones.
Someone like McConnell is probably not too motivated by sex and probably has enough non-reported $$s stashed to carry on. I don't know about Ryan (vis-a-vis sex) but he'll have enough to spend on quality time with his family. Neither of these or any other critters have learned to speak Russki (that I know of) so some forest bungalow doesn't seem reasonable.
Blackmail is the most probable since every neo-repug has been tainted.
But the KGB/FSB is well known to work with various drugs to control friends and enemies. Maybe there is a brain parasite that makes rats no longer fearful of their predators.....

The carrot being money in the form of cash, loans and loan forgiveness. Lately they've also thrown in a little, uh, help with the electoral process.
The stick being kompromat. The money itself is kompromat, because by accepting it you make yourself susceptible to blackmail. But there is likely plenty of other material they can use. We know that the RNC was hacked by the FSB/GRU and yet none of their material was released. Yet.

(13,512 posts)That aside, it's pathetic to think that McCain has anything worthwhile to say, what with his worn-out rubber stamp he gleefully and reliably used to support a criminal like trump.

When I read Seth Abramson's summary of the indictment filed today, I thought the scheme looked like moves in a chess games.
Did anyone else have that eerie feeling of an almost choreographed, step-by-step chess master at work.
The scheme was well coordinated and planned.
I wonder whether the Republicans have actually read the indictment carefully.

I'm a tiny bit serious about this.
And John, we appreciate your saying this, but you have been a completely compliant supporter of Trump and the current Republican mess, so just shut up. K?
