Backer of 3 Californias measure asks court to dismiss suit

Source: kolotv.com

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The backer of an initiative to split California in three is asking the state Supreme Court to dismiss a lawsuit trying to remove it from the November ballot

Venture capitalist Tim Draper wrote in a response to the court Friday that there is not enough time to properly consider the legal challenge. He says it would be inappropriate to block the initiative from going before voters.

An environmental group filed the lawsuit Monday. It argues the so-called "Cal 3" measure exceeds the scope of an initiative because it would drastically alter California's government and constitutional framework.

behind this initiative. But on a practical level, have they even remotely considered the enormous cost of setting up two new state governments and all the agencies that will entail?

7. Yes, but what about the incredible costs of creating those new seats?

They'd have to put in place every single one of the state government offices and services that are already in place. Okay, so Republicans don't give a flying fuck about services, but even so, there's an enormous cost involved. I do hope that those opposing this measure have been pointing this out.

I don't live in California, for what that's worth.

11. Repugs don't care about the cost, only the power they get from it.

They would gladly create many third-world States if it gave them
more votes in Congress and the Electoral College.

The electoral votes, I believe is what he was after.

I read a bout him awhile ago & cannot recall where that was.

It had something to do with that.
He had some 'red flag' connections so maybe that's why he dropped the measure.
Maybe Mueller or CA AG started following the money trail or something..

9. This is the most idiotic waste of time

I've ever seen and I've seen a lot. He's been trying to do this for years and I remember reading his original reason and it basically boiled down to some vendetta. This time he got it on the ballot by paying petion workers $5 a signature or something insane. I didn't hear about the lawsuit until now but it actually makes sense, the initiative process is supposed to modify the state constitution but how can an initiave that cannot be acted upon without the consent of the legislature and the US congress modify the state constitution which would now render the resulting state consitution invalid be incorporated. It's circular reasoning which is probably why his current defense is "there's not enough time", someone figured out what he didn't want them to.

If you ignore the basic idiotic nature of the proposal then you are left with the fact that the way the state would be split is also idiotic. My favorite part is the Free State Of Jefferson people who should support something like this still end up getting screwed because they get dumped into the bay area which are the very people they hate.

a lot of money, a lot of votes, etc. The whole idea is ridiculous and obviously some scheme to benefit someone's own selfish agenda. No one wants to persue this chaotic BS.

13. REPUBLICAN PLOT PAID BY RUSSIA

This would make new republican areas which would have GOP senators. The California rural areas are very RED and the split would make new RED states. Two years ago this same guy went to Russia and got money to push this BAD idea. The other GOP red states would rubber stamp the split. The whole idea is to cause HATE and MADNESS in the USA. I live in California and the GOP or republican voting people have been trying to do this for over 50 years. Republicans HATE the fact that California is doing so GOOD. The areas they want are SUPER POOR so the federal government would be providing cash like it does to other poor GOP states.........
