On the last leg of his rancorous European semi-vacation, President Trump visited his struggling golf course in Turnberry, Scotland, which he has been relentlessly promoting in between alienating traditional American allies.
Before he hit the links for the 120th time during his presidency, the president made clear that he wouldnt just be schmoozing on the links, but getting a nice cardio workout.
But the Washington Post reports that even on matters as straightforward as burning a few calories, the president plays a double game:
Trump hit the links Saturday, playing the course using a golf cart, which he drove. Most players at Turnberry, unless they have a note from their doctor, are required to walk the course, though they can hire caddies to wheel their bags of clubs.

(7,496 posts)It's supposed to be perfectly smooth, right? Is it so the carts don't make furrows that can impede the golf balls during a putt?
I suppose the landscapers have to go through a big deal to fix that if that's the case.

(17,857 posts)I have golfed once in my life (a company team building exercise where I had to pay for it). It is a much too expensive hobby. My walking shoes and audiobooks are much less expensive, and my dogs appreciate it more.

(363 posts)You can't tell from looking at them, but the greens on most courses are mostly made of sand (for drainage) and very soft. They can support very little weight.
And if you were to drive on to the green during the course of play you'd need to park your cart for a few minutes while playing the hole. During that time the cart would leave not just furrows, but four significant depressions from the stationary tires which would take quite a while to heave back into a flat surface. The green wouldn't "play true" for many weeks after your visit, thus impeding play for everyone who follows you. Which is why it's so frowned on.

They need big spenders to buy memberships in this failing Trump golf resort. Somehow Eric was put in charge of this, but I thought he was managing the Trump Foundation. Dunno, maybe he was fired from that job.

US President Donald Trump played golf on Saturday at his course on the western coast of Scotland, ignoring protesters who booed him.
Demonstrators on the beach below Trump's Turnberry resort chanted loudly "no Trump, no racist USA" when the US president and his son, Eric, came within view.
Trump, who had plenty of bodyguards on hand, appeared to taunt protesters by waving and smiling at them before continuing with his game.
"I'm here as a quiet protester to say: I really don't want this man in our country," said Graham Creelman, 70, who joined the protest on the beach.

Wouldn't you like to see a report from an unbiased MD on his ability to walk the course???
