Ocasio-Cortez to campaign with Bernie Sanders in Kansas
Source: The Hill
Congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will travel to Kansas together next week to campaign for a pair of candidates in the state, according to The Washington Post.
The pair will start off in Wichita, Kan., on July 20 to campaign for James Thompson in the states 4th District. From there theyll head to the Kansas City, Kan., suburbs to support former Sanders delegate Brent Welder, who is running for the Democratic nomination in the 3rd Congressional District.
Sanders told the Post that he and Ocasio-Cortez, a self-identified democratic socialist, organized the trip after realizing they both wanted to go to Kansas.
All over this country, you have people who understand that we need to [change] the minimum wage to a living wage; that health care is a right; that we need to rebuild our infrastructure, the progressive senator told the newspaper.

Brent Welder was a Sanders delegate. When he declared he asked for Sanders' support which he got. And he has asked for Sanders to come and campaign for him
So, why shouldn't he?

(58,785 posts)Right now the fascists have been winning, while some people are fighting mainstream Democratic progressive liberalism as not good enough. To put it mildly, this is an incredibly dangerous and clueless time to be quarreling over what form of national healthcare we should have; if we lose to the right, there will be NONE.
Its also telling that the Internet has become a weapon of choice for those who wish to spread authoritarianism. Russias president and its leading propagandist both cite a fascist philosopher who believed that factuality was meaningless. ...
To be sure, Fascism 2.0 differs from the original. Traditional fascists wanted to conquer both territories and selves; the Internet will settle for your soul. The racist oligarchies that are emerging behind the Internet today want you on the couch, outraged or elated, it doesnt matter which, so long as you are dissipated at the end of the day.
They want society to be polarized, believing in virtual enemies that are inside the gate, rather than actually marching or acting in the physical world. Polarization directs Americans at other Americans, or rather at the Internet caricatures of other Americans, rather than at fundamental problems such as wealth inequality or foreign interference in democratic elections. The Internet creates a sense of us and them inside a country, and an experience that feels like politics but involves no actual policy.
