"I think the European Union is a foe," Trump says ahead of Putin meeting in Helsinki

Source: CBS News

oming off a contentious NATO summit and a trip to the U.K. in which he seemed to undercut the government of America's closest ally, President Trump took aim at another Western institution just days before his high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In an interview with "CBS Evening News" anchor Jeff Glor in Scotland on Saturday, President Trump named the European Union -- comprising some of America's oldest allies -- when asked to identify his "biggest foe globally right now."

"Well, I think we have a lot of foes. I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade. Now, you wouldn't think of the European Union, but they're a foe. Russia is foe in certain respects. China is a foe economically, certainly they are a foe. But that doesn't mean they are bad. It doesn't mean anything. It means that they are competitive," Mr. Trump said at his golf club in Turnberry, Scotland.

Trump on Putin meeting: "I go in with low expectations"
"I respect the leaders of those countries. But, in a trade sense, they've really taken advantage of us and many of those countries are in NATO and they weren't paying their bills," he added.

For someone that's spent his entire life using other people's money and refusing to pay for services that's pretty rich.

They think he has balls and is finally standing up to them. His base thinks the EU is bad.
I have been working with some for the last several months that I would describe as brainwashed trump cult members. It has been eye opening.

Once again; "I think the European Union is a foe," Trump says...

In an interview excerpt airing on the network’s “Face The Nation” program on Sunday, Trump declared that he views the European Union as an enemy to the U.S.

My point is that the EU is NOT a foe to the US.

Putin WANTS to separate the US from the EU. He wants the EU and NATO and Western Democracy in general weakened,
And trump ended up being his "Siberian Candidate."

Trump's supporters are generally wypipo from flyover USA, trailer trash wypipo, {choose your descriptive} wypipo, who have European roots. Flabbergastingly stupid to support a president who attacks Europe.

But, believe me they are NOT just in 'flyover country' (I term I really detest, by the way... although I am not aiming this at you... just in general.)

These people are everywhere. I live in western up-state NY.. They are everywhere around here. And they are everywhere in the "middle" of CA, western WA and OR..

Everywhere.. perhaps just more concentrated in the middle of the country.

It is the larger towns and cities "we" are for the most part...

Look at Ithaca, NY for example. Almost nowhere is more liberal than that small city. But go 5-10 miles outside it and... loonyville to a great degree.

Classic narcissist. It's his world, and we're all part of his screenplay.
Even his own kids can be foes in his own mind if they cross him. Putin has information that can cause him problems, so on some level, Putin is "his foe" - even if he's supporting Drumpf.
