'Art of the Deal' co-author on Trump: 'We are in a true emergency'
Source: The Hill
The co-author of President Trumps bestselling 1987 book, The Art of the Deal, said Sunday that the president is having a meltdown and that the U.S. is at "enormous risk that goes far beyond what most journalists are comfortable saying."
We are in a true emergency, Tony Schwartz said on CNN. And the accelerated rate at which his breakdown or decompensation is occurring is cause for us, and certainly for me, to come on to TV more often, to tweet more often.
Schwartz said the time he's spent with Trump and his experience in the field of psychology make him qualified to make those observations about the president.
When asked by CNN "Reliable Sources" host Brian Stelter if he was trying to sound the alarm, Schwartz said he was trying to act like Paul Revere.

(5,914 posts)He's been adamant all along that Trump is crazy and dangerous, and that we would be even crazier to elect him.
He was dismissed as a Cassandra at first, but now we all know that he was dead right.

(13,133 posts)There is the truth from some part of it at least. At any rate, I give the guy his due, the guy is on a roll of some kind. When he says "and that we would be even crazier to elect him" it makes me think, and know how crazy our world has become.
Mostly to me though, it doesn't seem so crazy, it just seems logical when see what caused what. The last hurrah of the "me" generation has bloomed. The only thing left to do is watch it fold up and go back to where it came from

(32,345 posts)This point has been explained many times on DU and elsewhere.
Tony Schwartz was under contract to write that book "The Art of the Deal." He had to sign an NDA that precluded him from speaking out against Trump for 30 years or he would have been sued into poverty. The NDA expired in 2016, a few months before the election. THEN Schwartz went out and told his story to anybody who would listen, including major publications and TV media. He has been speaking ever since then, and his insights are true and frightening.
This man can be believed because he saw it all first-hand. He has walked the walk.
Here I'll start you off with this link: https://upload.democraticunderground.com/1016185363
Be sure to click on the story in The New Yorker where Schwartz tells the complete story of how that book was written, and Cheeto's duplicitous, deceptive behavior even as a young man.

(13,133 posts)From my point of view, we have a severely mentally deranged person that understands what he can get away with, in a place that will never be able to let him heal. If you have had to deal with this kind thing in a lesser setting you might have a clue how we are going to get out of it and what might go on in the future till we get there. Good luck trying to define 45 and his tendencies (he changes them just to throw people off at this present time).

(11,882 posts)Who trump works for, and its not for the American people , or our country, its clear signals after him attacking our country and OUR institutions and our allies he's working for putin as an agent . The penalty for treason should be his consequences when its all exposed, and it will be. All the corruption will also come back to haunt him and all others who've also been co-conspirators with him against OUR country. Its just a matter of time before he's fully exposed for all he's done to make putin great again, and why he did it. Greed for power and money. Hillary WAS right all along about trump and putin. Again why he and putin wants to criminalize her so bad.

Make no mistake, folks. This orange monstrosity isn't going anywhere of his own volition. It will take a force majeure to bring him to heel.

inexorably been moving to this point since 1776. And now white racist Amerikkka is going to be, if things don't change quickly, responsible for the 2nd Civil War. War between the States? NO. A war between the decent and POC, AA specifically, and the unclean, undecent racist beings who can barely be described as human. Includes their current enabler in the potus chair turned into his throne.

(5,808 posts)and escape punishment or exposure as a traitor. If the hounds are nipping at his heels, he just digs in more. He stubbornly refuses to acknowledge anything tying him to the crimes and he appeals to his base using words like witch hunt. Schwartz is probably right that tRump is showing signs of becoming unraveled. In his old life he could bob and weave, duck and avoid confrontation about his misdeeds. Now he is under observation 24/7. With so much to hide, the job just gets harder every single day.
But tRumps narcissism has him stubbornly clinging to the idea that he can ride this out. He will figure out a way to escape consequences for his action. He truly believes (in one part of his brain) that he is the smartest guy in the room. But another part is the frightened little boy tRump who is very insecure, feeling unloved and not respected. And the two parts are at war. We will pay a very big price if this is allowed to play out without any intervention by grown ups in the picture who can save us from this flawed man currently occupying our highest office.
