NBC News poll: Americans turn more anti-Russia under Trump
Source: NBC News
Americans are more leery of Russia and cyberattacks than they were a year ago.

A majority of Americans, 68 percent, consider Russia either unfriendly or an enemy of the United States, according to a new NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll.
That's a 9 percent increase from one year ago, when 59 percent of Americans said they considered Russia either unfriendly or an enemy, signaling that attitudes toward Russia have worsened amid President Donald Trump's administration and the federal probe into Moscow's interference in the 2016 election.
The poll was conducted just prior to Trump's Monday news conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, after which the president came under widespread, bipartisan condemnation for not backing his intelligence community's conclusion that Russia interfered in the election. (Trump on Tuesday attempted to walk back his remarks.)
More Democrats than Republicans expressed anxieties about Russia.

(17,857 posts)No way you can reach detente when Trump directly benefited from their actions and also surely had high level campaign staffers working directly with them in an illegal fashion. Every interaction Trump has with Russia will be seen through that lens by at least half the country. Unfortunately for Trump you can't unload foreign policy like you can the Justice department or the Defense department.
If Pence is mired in this as well, our relationship will continue to be polarized until at least the next election, and it will get worse if the GOP wins again with Russian support.

But he summarizes the problem really well regarding one major cause.

(32,356 posts)Why are Russians here? To cause trouble, to spy for Putin, to disrupt our government, to take advantage of us (legally or not). Russian immigrants need to be scrutinized just as closely as any other group. If they don't deserve our hospitality, they should be deported immediately. No special treatment for them!
