Hillary Clinton: 'Deeply troubling' for White House to consider Putin request to interview Americans
Source: The Hill
Hillary Clinton on Thursday condemned the Trump administration for considering Russian President Vladimir Putin's offer to allow U.S. law enforcement to observe questioning of indicted Russians in exchange for allowing Russian authorities to question American citizens.
"Ambassador @McFaul is a patriot who has spent his career standing up for America," Clinton tweeted. "To see the White House even hesitate to defend a diplomat is deeply troubling."
Clinton joined a growing chorus of Democrats, Republicans and former diplomats who have expressed concerns with the White House's decision to discuss Putin's offer.
Clinton, who lost to President Trump in 2016, served as secretary of State from 2009 to 2013, when she briefly overlapped with former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul's tenure as U.S. ambassador to Russia.

(8,200 posts)Madeline Albright has published a book about the rise of fascism in the United States. At least some people are aware of what many of us have been saying since the union busting duo, Reagan and Thatcher, came into power. Reagan paved the way with the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine and multiple ownership of broadcast radio stations. The hatred of the conservatives is frightening. I went to a couple boards and Facebook recently in which poster after poster called for the outright slaughter of Democrats. Maybe progressives had better start thinking about their own safety. If it came to what some of the people are calling for it could result in an outright rebellion that could result in martial law leading to the suspension of elections. This is the goal of the extreme right wing. The passage of laws that could deliver what the Republicans have been seeking, an Authoritarian Presidency as in Russia and China, that Trump admires and dreams of achieving.

(56,828 posts)it should not be "deeply troubling" - it should be outrageous, horrific and/or anti-American. It's an affront to American values.
don't soft pedal this outrage.

(43,044 posts)has taken over most of the elected and appointed part of our federal government, backed by blathering Trumpers in the hinterlands with the muscle to back them up, and we're reduced to trying to sustain citizenship rights for our ambassadors and international businessmen.
Only rule of law or voting them out will change the path down which we slide.
