White House morale tanks amid Helsinki fallout
Source: Politico
President Donald Trumps disastrous performance since his news conference alongside Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin has sent West Wing morale to its lowest level since the Charlottesville fiasco almost a year ago.
As happened last August, when the president refused to condemn neo-Nazi demonstrators, Trumps attempts to tamp down outrage have backfired. Stilted statements followed by ad-libbed remarks left even his allies feeling that while the president was technically acknowledging a mistake, he actually meant what hed said on the first go-round that he believed Putins denials of Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
People are just depressed, said one Republican close to the White House. Nobody wants to take on the public heat of resigning right now, but there are a bunch of people who were thinking maybe theyd leave after the midterms who are very seriously starting to consider accelerating their timetable.
But the presidents usual defenders, many of whom have been critical of him in public and almost all of whom are privately disappointed by his performance, say the following: While Trumps statements are regrettable, they have few if any policy consequences. And its for that reason that senior-level officials like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser John Bolton those with the most impact on policy are unlikely to step down.

(14,516 posts)Seriously, I have this constant level of stress I did NOT experience at all under Obama.
The thing is Trump is insane.
I.N.S.A.N.E.
We have no idea, literally no idea what he will pull next.
I'm happy these crappy feelings are now shared by the West Wing staff. They've been foisting that horror onto us all this time, and now what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

(12,761 posts)... THE FACT THAT RUSSIA ATTACKED US!
Trump even acknowledged the attack, saying Russia wasn't targeting us "any more"! Trump -- and Republicans -- still don't care.

(7,142 posts)"Remember Helsinki." At the time I thought it a great idea, finally Democrats and sane people coalescing around a powerful idea. Today, Helsinki, is being pushed into the dust bin, Democrats are amateurs when it comes to messaging. Trump simply doubled down and invited Putin to the White House. We still have Republicans getting air time on tv pushing the narrative that it is good to make nice with Russia. Republicans just voted down 2 bills to help protect and secure our upcoming elections with next to no condemnation.
The red head Russian spy is a huge deal IMO and isn't getting the publicity it deserves.
IMO it's a race whether Mueller comes out with his report, which I believe will be monumental, before we get the Reichstag fire.
It's tough for Democrats because the M$M controls the narrative, no one is allowed to dare talk about impeachment. When Democrats do step up the narrative they are quickly attacked and besmirched so that just the mention of their names becomes something bad and negative. They did it to Pelosi and now are doing it to Auntie Maxine and the Cortez lady who won in N.Y. I turned on Fox yesterday for a brief period and they were shredding Cortez. Most Democrats have stuck with Maxine but some have not and the same is happening with Cortez. Gawd, if we could only stay united like the vile Republicans do we would have strength in numbers. Rant off.

(18,893 posts)compared to the 65,844,610 people who voted for Hillary Clinton whose morale has been tanked for over 18 months now. So fuck all of the Trump toadies in the White House who've had to "endure" a few days of low morale. They can always quit. We can't quit the Orange Twit.

(11,882 posts)After he allowed KJU to fully develop his delivery systems to reach this country doing nothing to stop them , and now enriching fuel for his bombs , and still doing nothing to stop him. Now after putins puppet meeting we are kept from knowing everything he gave to them, and we also find out they've just tested a more powerful nuclear weapons, and he's inviting him to the White House? Republicans in Congress better stop this now, and the republicans all should be voted out of office, because they won't stop him either , and allow us all to be put in extreme danger with trump allowed to stay in office. trumps working for putin , not this country.

(9,426 posts)could have imagined such a thing"?? Seriously?? Have they MET the orange asshole? Anyone with a functioning brain knew he is a disaster, always has been, always will be. Even the gop knows it, but they do love the Russian money. For all their posturing about this country, they are more than willing to let us go down the sewer as long as the money flows into their coffers.
