Republicans upbeat about November elections despite Trump-Putin uproar

Source: Reuters

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Republicans at a conference in Texas this week had reason to feel downcast, even panicky as President Donald Trump’s meeting with Russia’s Vladimir Putin provoked broad outrage and revived talk of a Democratic wave in November’s congressional elections.

Instead, party officials voiced optimism about maintaining control of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives this autumn, saying the Democratic Party’s messaging and internal struggles were helping boost Republican prospects.

“They’re their own worst enemy, and I’m very comfortable with that,” said Terry Lathan, chairwoman of the Alabama Republican Party.

In interviews with Reuters, attendees at the Republican National Committee meeting in Austin said pressure from progressives challenging the Democratic old guard following Hillary Clinton’s defeat in the 2016 presidential election had forced many Democrats to adopt more left-leaning positions.

rig them for them again, and with trumps help from their meeting. That's how putin and trump are trying to keep them from switching from putins party over against them to the Democrats party and would undermine their power.

They are confronted by farmers who are being punished by the Trade Tariffs that are taking away income they need to run their farms because no one is buying their Pork, Beef, Crops, etc. As well as paying higher Gas prices to run their machines needed for farming.

Confronted by Women who are concerned about their right to safe Legal abortions should they choose with careful thought, as well as access to Contraception to avoid the need for an abortion.

Voting rights. States are making voting harder, not easier. That all Voter ID is is code for VOTER SUPRESSION.

Seniors who have paid into all their working lives see the possibility of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid being TAKEN AWAY bit by bit.

Issues that affect workers, their families, their livelihoods are front and center this election cycle. Republicans can run, but they cannot hide.

Giving up before the election. You can tell the repugs are 'confident'.

Dozens of repugs not running for re-election in congress, up to around 40.

Clarence Thomas will retire next year, and they'll have a 35 year conservative majority sitting on the bench. All we can hope for is that RBG can hold on until after 2020, assuming we get rid of Trump then.

With Dems possibly winning in Nevada, Arizona, Tennessee...they right would need to kick out three Dems in red states. Manchin polling looks pretty good in WV, Tester looks pretty good in MT, Brown looks fairly safe in Ohio. MO is the niggest chance of losing. I think Nelson will pull it out in FL. I'd be happy with an even draw or losing 1 Senate seat compared to the map that the Dems are facing.
