Clark County deputy fired over Proud Boys sweatshirt

Source: spokesman.com

Fri., July 20, 2018, 8:31 a.m.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has fired a deputy photographed wearing, and who apparently merchandises, apparel affiliated with the Proud Boys, a far-right group known for its white nationalist rhetoric and frequent appearances in the middle of political violence locally and nationwide.

The sheriff’s office placed Deputy Erin Willey on leave for an internal investigation in response to the Columbian’s reporting, after the office was shown a photograph of Willey wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with a Proud Boys logo. She was terminated Tuesday after the investigation was completed.

The undated photograph, shared with the Columbian by an anonymous source, shows Willey wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a logo showing a switchblade, lipstick and an abbreviation for Proud Boys’ Girls, which appears to be for sale on the online storefront Redbubble, an Australia-based market similar to Etsy.

Willey is also shown in a second photograph shared on a Proud Boys-affiliated Twitter page, which included her contact information for buying Proud Boys’ Girls merchandise.

I can pretty much guarantee you that this individual is not alone in her support for the Proud Boys and other fascist groups within the ranks of law enforcement.

at an Impeach tRump rally. They had bull horns and were drowning out out guest speakers, inciting violence, etc and the sheriffs that were there stood around and watched and allowed it to continue. After one of our speakers (a former city counsel member) was done she called the Chief of Police to get the sheriffs to separate the two geoups and do their job. They finally did but it showed me whose side they were on!

Big agency take over 6 months to a year to decide on someone. Are these people radicalize on their down time, or was it always there and they wanted to be a cop to act on it? Your employees need to be monitored more often, this behavior doesn't happen in a vacuum. Also , now you get to pull all their arrest and activity reports.

This crap is horrifying.

A sheriff's deputy in Clark County, Wash. was fired after being photographed in a sweatshirt supporting the Proud Boys, an alt-right group whose members have repeatedly come to Portland to fight in the streets.

Deputy Erin Willey was placed on administrative leave after The Columbian showed the Clark County Sheriff's Office the photograph. Her sweatshirt featured a stick of lipstick, a switchblade and the letters "PBG" – which stand for Proud Boy's Girl. She was fired on Tuesday. ... The Columbian reported that Willey had been advertising Proud Boy merchandise on social media.

Clark County has been the breeding ground for far-right activity in the Pacific Northwest. The protest group Patriot Prayer is based in Vancouver, Wash. and frequently crosses the state line into Portland to hold rallies that attract many Proud Boys and often devolve into street brawls.

Last year, a Patriot Prayer rally held in Vancouver drew hundreds of counterprotesters to the waterfront. As people in black bloc marched in downtown streets, a man slowly drove his black Chevy Silverado into the middle of the crowd. ... He suddenly reversed at a high speed and nearly hit several people. He continued to drive his truck around the area, revving his engine and honking at the protesters, until police stopped him{.} ... Vancouver police declined to arrest the man and let him go without charges after holding him for several minutes.
