RNC outraises DNC again in June
Source: The Hill
The Republican National Committee (RNC) posted strong fundraising numbers for June, surpassing the cash-strapped Democratic National Committee (DNC) for another month in a row.
RNC officials reported almost $14 million in fundraising in June, compared to just $8 million raised by Democrats during that time. The party remains far ahead of the DNC in to-date fundraising totals for this cycle, enjoying a lead of almost $100 million in total funds raised, according to The Washington Post.
Democrats ended June with just $9 million cash on hand and $6.3 million in debt, according to the Post. That's compared to a much larger $50.7 million cash on hand for Republicans.
The RNC's strong month of fundraising in June followed a record-high fundraising month in May, when Republicans raised more than $10 million and set records for fundraising in an off-year election.

(51,550 posts)It is amazing the DNC gets as much money as it does.
People are still giving quite generously to individual Democratic candidates, but those candidates need the infrastructure that the DNC provides.
Hope people wake up soon. The midterms really are just three months away.

(9,986 posts)We have some good opportunities for the House, and of course Beto ORourke for the Senate. Ill send a few dollars the DNCs way now, but honestly they and the DNCC are annoying with the number of emails they send. I get dozens per day, and every one of them is an emergency. And then there are the kazillion surveys with canned questions that dont really want your opinion because theres only one answer if youre a Democrat. Ive emailed this same comment to the DNC a couple of times and never get an response, not even an automated response like Thanks for your message. We appreciate your support as we continue working to elect Democrats.

(24,259 posts)if the DNC has ever out raised the RNC and in my 45+ yrs of paying attention to politics I can't bring to mind even once ATM. As you pointed out we tend to donate directly to candidates or to other orgs a lot more.
Add to this that our party also tends to attract a lot more middle class and poor and they simply can't afford to donate like the top 1% and big corps that donate to the Republicans do (because they're greedy and controlling and know which side their bread is buttered on).

Fundraising in Congressional elections, 2018
<...>
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) raised almost $57 million in the first five months of 2018, which is about $15 million more than the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC), which raised just under $42 million. The DCCC raised more than double the amount of the NRCC in April and May to create that advantage, as the two major parties' House campaign committees were roughly equal in amounts raised and spent after the first quarter. Both the DCCC and NRCC each reported having almost $61 million in cash on hand as of May 31, 2018, with neither committee having any debt. At the end of the first five months of 2016, the NRCC reported a cash balance of approximately $57 million and the DCCC had approximately $51 million.[2][3]
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) reported having almost $18 million more in cash on hand at the end of May than the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), although the DSCC also reported owing about $4 million in debt. Both major parties Senate campaign committees raised approximately $27 million during the first five months of 2018. Disbursements by the NRSC during this period were over $14 million greater than those by the DSCC, driven largely by the NRSC's repayment of $9.5 million in debt owed at the beginning of 2018.

I.e., Democrats are sending their money either to the DCCC or the DSCC or the individual candidates. This is NOT a Presidential election year where the DNC would have a more prominent role, but it IS a biennial Congressional election year and that's where the money needs to go - particularly since there is no incumbent Democratic President and no declared 2020 Democratic candidates. In the past, I expect it may have been the opposite with the hope the DNC would funnel money accordingly.
IMHO, no matter how much money the party receives, the bottom line comes down to turnout and having candidates actually running - either against GOP incumbents (far too many GOPers had no Democratic opposition) or for open seats.

(32,083 posts)Many of the individual congressional candidates are out-raising their republican opponents by a wide margin. I haven't seen much regarding the Senate races, but I expect it's similar.
I guess The Hill thinks their post will discourage Democrats. Judging by some of the posts here, it's working with a few. Thank you for educating them.

Nearly $5.5M raised online in June; average online gift $20
387k first time donors this cycle
DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján today announced record-breaking June fundraising. In June, the DCCC raised nearly $15.2M compared to $12.1M in June of 2016. The committee raised nearly $5.5M online in June with an average gift of $20, a monthly record for the DCCC this cycle. On June 30th alone, the DCCC raised $2.2M ($1.3M online) the largest single day of fundraising this cycle.
Through June, the DCCC has raised over $177M total with over $65M coming from online donations. Over 387k first-time donors contributed to this total raised through June. Reflecting the energy behind House Democrats, 57% of the total raised through June has come from grassroots supporters, including 4.46M individual gifts under $200.
Despite full Republican control of Washington, the DCCC has out-raised the NRCC nearly every month and by tens of millions cycle-to-date.
The DCCCs historic fundraising and grassroots support combined with record candidate fundraising ensures that incredible Democratic candidates will have the resources to share their unique stories and records of service with the voters, said DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján.Given the unprecedented amount of Republican dark outside money, we take nothing for granted and will continue to out-work the Republicans and hold them accountable for their destructive agenda.
