UPDATED - Gowdy: Trump 'missed a good opportunity' to stand up to Putin

BY MAX GREENWOOD - 07/22/18 09:39 AM EDT

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) on Sunday criticized President Trump's handling of a closely watched summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying the U.S. leader "missed a good opportunity" to stand up to Moscow.

"The president missed, I think, a really good opportunity to distinguish the United States from any other country, but especially from Russia," Gowdy said on "Fox News Sunday."

Gowdy, the chairman of the powerful House Oversight Committee, said that Trump needed to listen to his advisers and intelligence officials, who have repeatedly warned that Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election. If not, Gowdy said, those advisers would need to think twice about whether they can effectively serve in Trump's administration.

"The president either needs to rely on the people he has chosen to advise him or those advisers need to reevaluate whether or not they can serve in this administration, but the disconnect cannot continue," Gowdy said.

UPDATE

Gowdy: Trump advisers should consider quitting over Russia

The South Carolina Republican chastised Trump for inviting Putin to Washington this fall.

By ELI OKUN 07/22/2018 09:48 AM EDT Updated 07/22/2018 01:16 PM EDT

House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy chastised Donald Trump for inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin to Washington, saying Sunday that some members of the president's administration should consider quitting if Trump won't listen to their advice.

“The fact that we have to talk to you about Syria or other matters is very different from issuing an invitation,” Gowdy said on “Fox News Sunday” of the Putin invitation, which the White House confirmed last week would be extended for the fall. “Those should be reserved for, I think, our allies.” The South Carolina Republican suggested that some members of the administration may need to consider leaving if Trump continues to disregard their advice to stand firm against Russia.

That concern has dominated discourse in Washington since Trump’s summit with Putin in Helsinki last week, at which he spoke more harshly of the FBI than of Russia.

“It can be proven beyond any evidentiary burden that Russia is not our friend and they tried to attack us in 2016,” Gowdy told host Bret Baier. “So the president either needs to rely on the people that he has chosen to advise him, or those advisers need to reevaluate whether or not they can serve in this administration. But the disconnect cannot continue.”

That isn't an option. When putin tried to set it up where he could do to Americans like he does to his opposition in russia with his justice system made up of a kangaroo court system and trump agreed was the final tell from trump and putin who was in control of who at that meeting, and it wasn't trump. trump was weak as jello, and showed everyone his loyalty IS to only putin , not this country , or any American people. putin wants trump to implement a similar justice system here for him to use to do like he has done in russia , and corrupt their government without any opposition , or consequences, and to get very , very wealthy.

He often makes a fool out of himself, but he seldom misses the opportunity.

Curious what he intends to do once his term is over?

This is now a great crisis because of party hacks like Gowdy. They were so partisan they hadn't a clue of the unsuitability of Trump for the presidency.

But instead focused on Benghazi, emails and "Deep State" red herrings because he'd sell out our country to stay in power.

Just like YOU Gowdy are "missing a good opportunity" to actually do some damn OVERSIGHT. The Democrats on that committee have give you a list of things that need hearings and you have ignored each and every one - from the immigrant child separation fiasco, to the EPA FOI mess, to the past and current misuse of public funds by former or current heads of multiple agencies including HHS, EPA, DOI, TREAS & HUD.
