Trumps former campaign manager wants to unite Europes far-right by next years election.

Donald Trumps former chief of staff is planning to set up a foundation in Brussels to support right-wing, anti-establishment groups in the run-up to the European Parliament election.
Steve Bannon said in a wide-ranging interview with the Daily Beast that he wants to unite powers on the right end of the political spectrum.
Everybody agrees that next [European Parliament election in] May is hugely important, that this is the real first Continent-wide face-off between populism and the party of Davos, Bannon said in the interview. This will be an enormously important moment for Europe.
The organization to be called The Movement would serve as a central source of polling, advice on messaging, data targeting, and think-tank research, the Daily Beast reported. It would be based in Brussels and initially have a handful of full-time staffers to support populist and right-wing parties across Europe.

(22,100 posts)against Bannon coming over (Germany I think) and telling them what to do etc. in setting up their platforms and so forth. After all, Europe sees the mess that rump is getting the US into...a giant hot mess...
Bannon is not exactly the kind of person I would want to do anything w/, after all, if Bannon can't keep himself looking fit and able, looks like he's about to keel over, or needs 500 operations, then why should the hell I listen to him?
He's a joke that thinks people want to listen to him...all by pure luck...by hitching a ride to rump, went along for the ride, and then fell off, big time. Now he's trying to capitalize on it, in Europe of all places? What's the matter Bannon? Is the US too hot for you to handle? You had a lucky streak, and now your time is up. You belong to the trash heap of history.

(128,746 posts)he is looking to influence the opposition parties and the nationalistic RW fringe elements there. Since those countries (although somewhat diversified due to their past colonizations) are still very much homogeneous, that is what will make a difference. Thus he would probably have more success overseas than here (note that his firm's "trial run" was successful in interfering with Brexit). It's just that the population here is so much greater than the individual countries there, so our "fringe element" alone, although a minority here, comes out to be the same or larger than the entire populations of most European countries... E.g., where other than Germany (which is the largest), the next biggest ones (UK & France) have about the same population in total as the idjits who voted for Drumpf in the 2016 election, thus making it easier to impact versus here.

(128,746 posts)Oh he did testify behind closed doors, and eventually did a 2nd time, but refused to answer certain questions except the scripted ones crafted by the WH. This is why the demand by the Democratic members of the Oversight committee that insists he should be held in contempt in the same manner as the GOP members were threatening to hold Strzok in contempt.

I forgot this jerk was questioned (Wado), but he fully didn't answer the questions because he was being protected by enabling traitors called republicans and the traitor in the white house..................

(54,330 posts)This HAS to be a Russia-funded move. When East Germany collapsed, and then the Soviet Union, all the records of the funding of extremist movements in Western Europe came out, and a good number of them melted away when their financing disappeared. Some of them actually shed their extremists and became stronger for it (notably, Germany's Greens).
This is a classic KGB tactic (mostly First Directorate), and Russia just happens to have a classic KGB operative at its helm.
One telltale phrase of Bannon's practically made me laugh out loud: Everybody agrees that next [European Parliament election in] May is hugely important....." Now THAT is worthy of a comedy routine anywhere in Europe. Not only does nowhere NEAR "everybody" agree on that, the EP elections garner less interest in Europe than a Republican primary in Oklahoma. The European Parliament is an ineffectual, toothless do-nothing body that does little other than eat up taxpayers' money and hand out undeserved perks to its members. Maybe, because this is the case, Putin thinks that stealthily filling the EP with right-wing ideologues, and THEN finding a way to give it some teeth, he can do some real harm, but he has his work cut out for him, and he'll need a serious budget and a lot of patience. Bannon, on the other hand, doesn't have much of a life right now, and would undoubtedly welcome someone's (OK, Putin's) offer to get one again.

(37,648 posts)Lobbyists have a lot of power, like here. Majority doesn't necessarily rule the roost...seems a minority faction (French speaking) is given majority-power in some ways. I don't quite understand that.
The largest party there is already a nationalist right wing party, so he's just going to grab a shirt tail to that, or what? Wikipedia says that party wants to secede from Belgium and require the Dutch language be used. Sounds right up Bannon's alley.

(32,617 posts)Bannon is for sure being sponsored by some super-rich pricks who don't want their names associated with it. For several years he was working for Robert Mercer the RWNJ who swung his resources to back Trump, after Mercer's original favorite Ted Cruz failed to win the GOP nomination. That's what brought Bannon into Trump's campaign, because Mercer wanted him there.
However since early last year Mercer has (apparently) cut ties with Bannon and now we hear that ol' Stevie is sniffing around the super-rich RWNJs in Europe. You know he's got a sponsor over there, maybe several. It could even be Satan himself - Vladimir Putin.
