Trump to propose blocking California's clean car standards
Source: The Hill
The Trump administration is planning a proposal to block California regulators from enforcing their own emissions standards for vehicles sold in the state.
Bloomberg News reported Monday that the proposal will be part of a regulation the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will jointly propose in the coming days to freeze or reduce federal greenhouse gas emissions and fuel efficiency rules for cars.
The proposal would set up a battle with California over whether the Clean Air Act allows its decades-long aggressive crackdown on car emissions. The fight is almost certain to go to court if the administration pursues it. The rules have become part of Californias environmental identity, as well as part of its efforts to clean the air in Los Angeles and other heavily polluted areas.
The Obama administration permitted California to set its own greenhouse gas emissions for cars in 2009, giving it a waiver under the Clean Air Act. Numerous other states now follow Californias standards.

Governor Brown will not stand for this and if Newsom wins he will fight back also. The repuke running thinks he has a chance, he is a carpet bagger idiot who will get the dumb parts of California to vote for him. But no enough for him to win.

(2,574 posts)Coincidentally, in // up is down Koch universe, The Koch Bros are spending millions on a Nov Proposition to overturn a measly gas tax State of Ca instituted to pay for transportation repair/improvement.
So the RW is outraged & wildly against drivers paying a tiny bit for better roads but, at the same time, all aboard drivers paying as much as double for unimproved mileage standards for fuel that also is more poisonous to the air they breathe?

They have no quarter to talk about "rule of law", fiscal responsibility, immigration policy, family values, "states rights", or any other topic that they have feigned taking the high road on for decades. Every fucking Republican needs to be laughed off the podium whenever they mention any of these things.

Truth about the GOP is that everything they "support" revolves around getting more money for them and less for everyone else. In pursuit of that goal, they have found racism to be irresistible when it comes to firing up their knuckle-dragging voters. So when they figured out racism sells and would do so for a very long time, the dye was cast...

(6,881 posts)I grew up in CA long time back, 4th generation at that. Especially back then, California is a land unto itself with nothing around it for two thousand miles. Forests to the north, Pacific to the west, Mexico to the south, and a desert to the east where the rest of America is supposed to be. If California doesn't like what goes on in DC, they just ignore it. So what to do? Send an army of federal vehicle inspectors to Sacramento to retrofit all the cars?
