Iranian Foreign Minister Warns Trump to ‘BE CAUTIOUS’ Following All-Caps Threat: ‘COLOR US UNIMPRESSED’

by Ken Meyer | 4:41 pm, July 23rd, 2018

Javad Zarif, the foreign minister of Iran, says his government isn’t fazed by President Trump‘s online threat of retribution against President Hassan Rouhani.

Trump set the international political world ablaze again this morning when he sent out an all-caps Twitter threat, saying Iran will “SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE” if they ever threaten America again. The tweet came in response to an interview where the Iranian president said that a conflict between his country and the U.S. would be the “mother of all wars” and “would only lead to regret.”

As it were, Zarif has noticed Trump’s tweet and he’s, well, unimpressed:

Trump makes the mistake of thinking our adversaries are both stupid and afraid of him. They are neither.

the idiocy in Trump thinking people with a completely different written language than ours would be intimidated by capital letters?

particularly those in government. I'm sure they didn't need a translation of the tweet or an explanation that all caps = shouting, to understand that Trump was just bloviating the way he always does.

countries...once again we have an article that clips Rouhani's words, which were proceeded by "Iran can be the mother of all peace..." to just helpfully inflame things...just because they can.

Frankly I do not get it how Rhouni's words were inflammatory at all and I refuse to let corporate media think for me.

where people often seem to use florid, metaphorical or very dramatic language that, when translated into English, sounds over the top. Native speakers of the original language might not think it's so extreme because that's just the way they talk. If you say the same thing in English it just sounds nuts, like Spanky's tweet, because formal modern English tends to be very restrained and understated. No English speaker would come up with something like "the mother of all battles," Saddam Hussein's expression. But I doubt this was considered weird or overblown in Arabic; it's just how they threaten an ass-kicking. Spanky's tweets sound nuts because, although his native language is (sort of) English, he's nuts.

Iran is a huge and educated country, with many resources. A war with Iran would be nothing like a war with Afghanistan, Iraq, or even North Korea. Trump has a single, limited world view, and that will get him into much trouble. "One size fits all" didn't work for pantyhose and it surely doesn't work for nations.

for the fool he is. Probably, laughing their heads off. He is a buffoon, albeit a dangerous one. It will take years to clean up this idiot’s mess.
