Support For Roe V. Wade Reaches New Heights In NBC/WSJ Poll

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Matt Shuham | July 23, 2018 6:49 pm

Support for Roe v. Wade has reached a high point since the the Wall Street Journal and NBC News began asking about the decision in 2005, NBC News reported Monday.

Seventy-one percent of Americans are opposed to Roe being overturned, a record high since 2005, while just 23 percent say it should be overturned, a record low for the poll.

Eighty-eight percent of Democrats, 76 percent of independents and 52 percent of Republicans support Roe, according to the recent poll results.

Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee and, potentially, the scale-tipping vote necessary to overturn Roe, has the support of 32 percent of Americans, according to the poll, compared to 26 percent who oppose his confirmation.

He told us exactly what he expected out of any justice he would appoint. He's made those appointments. And SCOTUS will overturn it. Good job, Americans. Way to vote for policies you care about.

according to Amanda Marcotte, the paths are either

) the states will enact their own laws about abortion. Many have already done this in anticipation or
2) Congress will enact legislation to ban abortion nationally.

If #2 happens that will be final as an appeal to SCOTUS would be a non-starter

Are made up largely of thumpers and theocrats who believe that overturning Roe v. Wade will end abortions forever in the U.S., at which time they can do the praise Jesus dance and celebrate that there will never be another abortion done. Zero. Zip.

Which is total baloney, of course. Reversing Roe will return us to the "good old days", when rich women could go wherever they needed to go for an abortion, and the only option for poor women was what we called "back alley abortions", which were extremely dangerous.

9. It wouldn't matter whether 99% supported it. It only takes five MEN to overturn it.
