Source: NJ Advance Media
Pepperidge Farm has recalled four varieties of its popular Goldfish crackers due to the possible presence of Salmonella in the seasoning, the company announced.
The following varieties of crackers are being recalled:
* Flavor Blasted Xtra Cheddar
* Flavor Blasted Sour Cream & Onion
* Goldfish Baked with Whole Grain Xtra Cheddar
* Goldfish Mix Xtra Cheddar + Pretzel
People who may have bought any of these types of snacks should check this list of affected products for more information.
Pepperidge Farm said it was notified Monday by one of its suppliers that whey powder in a seasoning that is applied to four varieties of its crackers was recalled due to the potential presence of Salmonella.

First Ritz crackers, now the Goldfish. They better not recall my Triscuits.

(16,875 posts)I just assumed something like that would be killed in the baking process and that there is also regular testing of batches of product and ingredients used....
What concerns me about this too is that Goldfish are one of the most common "crackers" that small kids have and are in their lunches.....

(111,314 posts)I agree with your concern about Goldfish being one of the most common snacks for small kids which is why I posted this in LBN.

(2,961 posts)Ground into my couches, their car seats, the entire interior of our van, the carpet in their bedroom. My kids leave a trail of Goldfish dust wherever they walk. :/
This made me laugh so hard because I remember it way too well......

(2,961 posts)a car seat? And there's like 40 tons of smashed unknown crumbs and food? I feel like my kids have somehow improved my immune system response.

(12,581 posts)The labeling is also good to help determine what sort of potential allergens - and how much exposure there is to them - per serving.
People with food-sensitive conditions or concerned parents can accurately count out how many goldfish can be identified as a serving without too much risk. With the small size of the cracker, the servings can be eaten slowly enough to be a satisfactory treat.
Wonder where they got their whey powder from. Pepperidge Farm is part of a large conglomerate that shares suppliers over different product lines; we should be hearing of recalls from other food companies soon.
