White House readies plan to extend about $12 billion in emergency aid to farmers caught in Trump’s escalating trade war

By Washington Post Staff
July 24 at 10:39 AM

An announcement could come as soon as Tuesday, according to two people briefed on the matter. This is the latest sign that growing tensions between the United States and other countries will not end soon.

Farm groups have complained that Trump’s tariffs on foreign imports have led other countries to retaliate with tariffs on U.S. products, jeopardizing farmers’ overseas sales of soybeans and other crops.

Under the White House plan, the money will be disbursed in at least three ways, coming through direct assistance, a food purchase and distribution program, and a trade promotion program.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

Many of these farmers keep voting for politicians sponsored by big AG, free trade and Monsanto. They also know that a one-time cash infusion will not do much for next year and the years following. Not only that, but guess who is going to get most, if not all of that money? BIG AG, Monsanto, etc. Not wishing at all wishing bad on family farmers, just hoping they will organize against those who have pummeled them for decades.

but their future incomes are shot unless they plan to do an emergency appropriation every year. Maybe reducing farming will save the Ogalala Aquifer, or maybe it will reduce fertilizer and animal waste in the water supply. I'd like to see an article on the long term effects of reducing farming in the US.

Add Medicaid, Snap, and the child health programs. We can ask why taxpayers who did not vote for Trump are now having to bail them out solely because of Trump’s stipid decision to start trade wars with the world.

The cost of reunification is coming from AIDS programs. They have cut veterans healthcare. They have proposed massive changes to Medicare payment schedules that will result in doctors abandoning their Medicare contracts or patients. They keep trying to cut SNAP, which pumps more money into the economy than they spend on it.

So... who is it that will suffer for this bribe to farmlandia?

And their minds will not change - they'll cheer Trump again.

Trump screws the farmers to the point of ruination and then becomes their savior - and those farmers will only remember being saved.

While the great communist country in the world tries to defeat the great capitalist country in the world by out bargaining it in the world of free international trade.

I'm sick of treating farmers in Ohio as more American than any one else.
