Trader Joe's employee was killed by officer's bullet, LAPD says

Source: CNN

Melyda Corado, a Trader Joe's assistant manager who died during a shootout and standoff Saturday, was killed by an officer's bullet, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said.

"I am truly sorry," Moore said at a news conference Tuesday. "It is unimaginable the pain of the Eldorado family. We share the pain today."
He said Corado was exiting the store as suspect Gene Evin Atkins was entering the store in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Silver Lake. That's when Corado was hit by LAPD gunfire, Moore said.

The melee started when Atkins allegedly shot his grandmother and kidnapped a 17-year-old female acquaintance. He fled in a car while firing shots out the back window toward pursuing officers, police said.

Atkins eventually crashed the car and fled into the Trader Joe's, where a three-hour standoff ensued.

Developing story - more to come

4. How quickly this story got out of control. Trump tried to use it in a deleted tweet.

Trump jumped on this story very early. In a late night tweet. This is not the kind of thing that normally gets his attention. At the same time Fox News was playing it up. Sure enough, it turned out the alleged perpetrator was a black man. Which they no doubt knew. Fox News was first to show a picture highlighting the man's face. Trump deleted his tweet. Bill Shine at work. If anyone doubts that the president is racist its these subtle but vicious acts of bigotry, long common on Fox and Drudge, it's stuff like this that shows how corrosive it is. Worse in some ways than a full-blown white supremacist, who at least declares his prejudices up front.

would not have gotten any mention.

they would paint the victims as being the all white MAGA types who live nowhere near a trader Joe's.

7. Thanks. I wondered if anyone else noticed it. Misses the connection to Fox News

I was following both Fox News, Trump's only "intelligence" network, and his Twitter account and I'm sure they were coordinated. Fox finds the crime, determines if the perp is politically attackable, if yes, sends it to president, and voila! What do you know? "See I told you so. Black (Muslim, Mexican, MS13) crime wave inundating white, Christian America." This goes back to Ailes and Nixon. Carried on by Shine.

I think he deleted it because the motivation was so obvious. Stupid people think everyone else is stupid. And these dog whistles don't go undetected like they used to.
