WASHINGTON President Donald Trump on Wednesday blamed China for targeting U.S. farmers in an effort to undermine trade negotiations with Beijing, and he urged critics of his escalating trade war to "be cool."
"China is targeting our farmers, who they know I love & respect, as a way of getting me to continue allowing them to take advantage of the U.S." Trump posted in one of a series of tweets on Wednesday. "They are being vicious in what will be their failed attempt. We were being nice until now!"
The tweets come as Trump's trade policy is increasingly under fire from Republicans on Capitol Hill, especially those representing farm states where China's retaliatory tariffs are affecting crop prices. The Trump administration rolled out a $12 billion subsidy plan on Tuesday to help farmers, but the measures were widely criticized by Republicans.
"When you have people snipping at your heels during a negotiation, it will only take longer to make a deal, and the deal will never be as good as it could have been with unity," Trump wrote Wednesday. "Negotiations are going really well, be cool. The end result will be worth it!"

That actually happened with our daughter when she was about seven.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Many farmers remain critical of President Donald Trump's tariffs and the damage done to commodity prices and markets but were appreciative Tuesday that he offered to provide some cash to help offset their losses.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a $12 billion three-part plan that would borrow money from the U.S. Treasury to pay producers of soybeans, sorghum, corn, wheat, cotton, dairy, and hogs.
The USDA also will buy the surplus of commodities that would otherwise have been exported and distribute them to food banks and other nutrition programs. That will cover fruits, nuts, rice, legumes, beef, pork and milk.
. . .
Farmers said they would rather have Trump settle the trade disputes with China, Mexico, Canada and the European Union and get free trade flowing again.

(8,203 posts)the comedian....
So, farmers hurt by tariffs, consumers hurt by higher prices, and US taxpayers on the hook to tune of $12B -
I hope everyone requested an extension for paying taxes....why not - I remember one of the anti-war efforts during VN when the govt put a 10% tax on telco bills back in the early 70s - each year thereafter reduced by 1%....many wrote their letter and we removed the tax - of course we had to file a report to the govt..but I used to say - good on them.....
