'He asked me if I was American': Man allegedly beaten by 2 New Orleans officers tells his story

Source: The Advocate

The New Orleans Police Department arrested two of its own officers and began the process of firing them after an off-duty fight with a civilian early Tuesday near a Mid-City bar, according to authorities. John Galman and Spencer Sutton — rookies who graduated from the police training academy in December and had not yet completed a required probationary period — were booked on counts of simple battery in connection with an incident that sent the civilian to the hospital. In a statement, Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said investigators collected video evidence and witness statements which "clearly" established that Galman, 26, and Sutton, 24, were the aggressors in an altercation culminating at Baudin and South Murat streets.

Rump- “I disagree-MAGA” (spoken as the orange peach’s trousers left him shall we say, exposing the blushed parts of brutality now firmly established as the hallmarks of the glorious police state of unaccountability).

that calls itself "fraternal," "protective," or "benevolent." Those, more than other cop unions, seem to be primarily thugs-with-badges.

I love it when "real Americans" call people "fake Americans".

America has essentially flushed the constitution down the toilet. What's it going to take for race-based citizenship to stop?

What's the point in being documented if racist idiots refuse to believe the documents? They thought a US president had fake documents.

in the photo.

Just think what would have happened had Mr. Gomez not been a "real American."

Jesus H. Christ.

How on earth will this racist beast our government has become ever be turned back toward civilization again? Is it even possible? Sure doesn't look that way.

The racial incidents that have and continue to occur in the USA by police forces are not normal...I know, racism and hate are not normal, but the killing and hate speech that has been going on against minorities by police agents is more abnormal.

In the NOPD defense, the two cops were detained and arrested almost immediately. Soon they will get the obligatory termination defense before being fired.

Glad they were discovered and fired before they shot somebody.

they should both be charged with felonies for that alone. The assault did not occur within their police duties and accordingly should result in felony assault with bodily injury charges.

How much of this nonsense has been going on for a long, long time. Personally (and this is only a personal opinion) I think that 'cops taking it out against minorities' is just about as old as there have been cops. I also think that most cops don't. That they do their damndest to be color blind. And the ones we hear about have been targeting minorities since they graduated from the police academy.

The difference is the bad cops can't seem to get it through their thick skulls that things have changed and now just about everyone has a cell phone and is perfectly willing to whip it out at a moment's notice, grab a video, post it to Facebook, where a local news outlet sees it and it gets picked up by the national news.

I think (I tend to be an optimist) that the worm is turning. Police Chiefs are like politicians and they have a keen sense of which way the wind is blowing. And they don't like having their cops showing up on the national news doing bad things. And the City Councils don't like it either.

Keep those cell phones handy, folks. We can turn the 'see something, say something (and video it)' into a positive force.

Fingers crossed.

Is there not some scrutiny at the "police academy?" Good thing they were found early but only by their own actions. Do coverups begin with training?
