A California lawmaker says that Trump administration officials lied to a young migrant girl separated from her mother, telling the child she had been "abandoned" by her parents and poisoning the girl's relationship with her mother.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Calif.) said Thursday that the girl believed Trump administration officials who told her that her mother had abandoned her and that she would live in shelters until she was 18, causing the girl to reject her own mother upon reunification.
"A mom told us her relationship with her 8yo daughter would never be the same. Officials lied to the daughter, saying her mom abandoned her. They said she'd live in a shelter until she was 18. When they reunited, the daughter believed that and wanted nothing to do with her mom," Jayapal tweeted.

(21,111 posts)The poor child just stood there in bewilderment while his Dad hugged him and the kid did not hug him back. The camera panned back and the kids face looked like he was so traumatized.

(51,583 posts)She witnessed a lot of the behavior mentioned in the OP. The kids are being told their parents didn't want them and left them there on purpose...this is child abuse. She said that the US govt should give the parents a path to citizenship as a way to help remedy this inhumane treatment by our govt. That is the least they could do. Stephen Miller is behind this. Get him outside his home and office and harass him 24/7 so he can't go anywhere in public any more. This already happened to him once a few months ago when he went to get $80 of sushi and the guy working there let him have an earful and Miller left. We must do this constantly...harass, harass and harass them until they are beyond miserable.

(22,038 posts)Should not be forced to pay for the life long psychiatric counseling that these children will require for this misogynistic treatment. Rethugs should be ordered to pay for it. And pay, and pay and pay. And yes, arrested for child abuse. From the bottom to the top.

(3,010 posts)didn't want her. This is common in child abductions. Relationships can heal in time.
This is child abduction, plain and simple. Every republican congressman should have to wear this as a badge of shame for life. They shouldn't be able to go in public, eat in restaurants, go to the theater, fly in an airplane, without being shouted down. Public shame is our DETERRENT.

(5,106 posts)Wow, many people are outraged about the treatment of these families! Way past time, wouldn't you think? What does the very "Christian" Mike Pence have to say? I don't wish an actual lynch mob for Trump, but wouldn't mind such a scare for him. I hope we aren't waiting in vain for Robert Mueller, because this is SERIOUS damage to the alleged "American Dream." Can you possibly imagine the Repug reaction if this were a DEMOCRATIC president? Of course that's unimaginable, even to any honest Republican(I grew up when there used to be honest Republicans; but voted for McGovern in my first election. I'd be 100 percent more comfortable with Nixon as POTUS now). Strange days, indeed.
