'Basically, we opened up Europe,' Trump says -- despite no final trade deal

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAN FABIAN - 07/26/18 01:53 PM EDT

President Trump on Thursday took a victory lap over his handshake agreement to avoid a trade war with the European Union, declaring "basically, we opened up Europe" to U.S. exports — even though no new deal is in place.

"We just opened up Europe for you farmers. You're not going to be too angry with Trump, I can tell you," Trump said at a jobs event in Peosta, Iowa.

Referring to the agreement struck Wednesday with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Trump said, "you have just gotten yourself one big market."

As he spoke, Trump held up a green and yellow baseball cap with the phrase "Make Our Farmers Great Again!" emblazoned on the front.

Seriously. He thought it was the most powerful message he had ever heard, and built his salesmanship tactics on it.

In his mind, setbacks are temporary, and his grandiose promises are merely incantations to create the success of his dreams,
while admitting to problems and fuck ups are a form of negative thinking, to be banished.

when you look at some of the stuff he says and does in that light, it actually makes a bit more sense, from his point of view.
Of course, you have to throw in the crippling narcissism, and whatever else is in his brain.

He once stated in a deposition that how rich he is depends on he felt at any given time. To him, that is sorta true.

"prosperity gospel". Trump latched right on to that. So much so, that he has completely lost touch with reality.

However there are some teachings of Peale's that trump seems to have ignored such as:

"...like the chapter that encourages readers to "Stop Fuming and Fretting," and the sermon that ended saying, "If you've been mistreated, don't chew on the bitterness of it, swallow it. Then forget it and turn your attention to the opportunities that are yours."

Trump keeps doubling and tripling down on this nonsense as if reality isn't already hitting people. He's out there because they're getting slaughtered by his policies. So kick the can down the road again, as the prices plummet and plummet, the crops come in, and the bills come due? I guess if it's all you have, it's all you have.

This is gonna be a bad come down for a lot of these people. Many will end up destitute behind his complete incompetence.
