(11,841 posts)You rightly point out the culture issue. We have a major culture problem but nobody ever wants to mention that. Its just focus on "the gun". Well, there are 300 million of them and they're not going away, so we better start focusing on the "why".

(32,992 posts)but somehow I don't think that's the culture you mean.
as my shrink used to say: 'why' isn't the question. they question is 'how'.
how do so many americans manage to shoot other americans? because they have guns.

(11,841 posts)There are many places that have many guns available, yet there isnt a High gun crime rate to match. The culture problem I bring up is the culture of violence we seem to have in so many areas. Its glamorized by some & encouraged.
And so many who are quick to say "Well if I'd had my gun _________" regardless of the situation

(32,992 posts)I assume by "culture of violence we seem to have in so many areas", you mean black-on-black turf shootings in inner cities, like NOLA and the much-pointed-at-by-whatabouting-gunners Chicago.
Is that accurate?
Who's "glamourizing" and "encouraging" those shootings? "Some"? Who is "some"?

(11,841 posts)There are also white areas where gun toting is seen as the "macho" thing to do and is glamorized by social media all the time. The culture of being the badass redneck is & has been an issue.
Sure, "some" rap music glamorizes gun culture and violence all the time. That cannot be ignored. But its not just a black problem.

Glad you didn't mean African Americans - what you're complaining about, I just call "gun culture".

Two gunmen were on the loose in New Orleans Sunday after firing "indiscriminately" into a crowd outside a daiquiri shop and killing three people, according to police. Seven more were injured.
"Two individuals clothed with what we believed to be hoods ... approached from behind and opened fire one with, we believe, a rifle and one with a handgun," New Orleans police superintendent Michael Harrison told reporters late Saturday. "They stood over one of the individuals and fired multiple rounds and fled on foot."
"This has to be personal," he added. "Firing indiscriminately into a crowd? Shooting 10 people? Killing three? That's personal, it doesn't get more personal and we take it personal."
. . .
The injured were taken to hospitals in the area. One of the victims who is thought to be in critical condition underwent surgery.
