Trump defends tariffs: When we use them 'foolish people scream!'

In a series of tweets, the president accused his critics of being "fools" and claimed that tariffs imposed by his administration were already having a positive effect on U.S. steel.

"Tariffs have had a tremendous positive impact on our Steel Industry. Plants are opening all over the U.S., Steelworkers are working again, and big dollars are flowing into our Treasury. Other countries use Tariffs against, but when we use them, foolish people scream!" Trump wrote.

"Tariffs will make our country much richer than it is today. Only fools would disagree," he added.

Trump also claimed that much of the opposition to his trade action has come from China, despite the fact that many U.S. allies and members of the president's own party have criticized the tariffs.
