Trump: Environmental laws making California wildfires 'so much worse'

Source: The Hill

President Trump appeared on Sunday to place blame for massive wildfires in California on the state's environmental laws, including its water and forest management policies, saying that such regulations have made the blazes "so much worse."

"California wildfires are being magnified & made so much worse by the bad environmental laws which aren’t allowing massive amount of readily available water to be properly utilized," Trump tweeted. "It is being diverted into the Pacific Ocean. Must also tree clear to stop fire spreading!"

We have already had some members of the Trump administration complaining about how the Civil War was due to an inability to compromise on the subject of slavery, so why not blame California laws designed to combat climate change on the affects of climate change, which Trump denies.

The tankers are dropping the red flame retardant. I think they are loaded at an airbase near Sacramento, which by air is not too far away.

The bottom line is the main thing that turns a fire into a major disaster are the winds. And there's nothing anyone can do about the wind.

I guess they haven't connected the "other dot" that without trees we would be really screwed :

" A 100-ft tree, 18" diameter at its base, produces 6,000 pounds of oxygen." "On average, one tree produces nearly 260 pounds of oxygen each year. Two mature trees can provide enough oxygen for a family of four."

I guess the psychopath never even thought about that ....................while he was sitting on that throne in the toilet, not one iota........................

Trump only understands steel and cement.

This is about as dumb as Reagan's famous "If you've seen one redwood, you've seen them all".

Tree conservation and new planting is one of the best natural solutions to global warming.

Brush clearing, however, is essential. The Indians in California used to do controlled burns of grasses and brush to prevent major fires and fertilize the soil, while preserving the vital oaks from which they got much of their acorn-based food.

The Carr Fire isn’t about access to direct water resources... Good luck finding a fire hydrant every 1000 yards in rural or forest areas.

This is about climate change, environmental conditions, a longtime damaged ecosystem, and the Fishing Industry versus the Farming Industry.

It seems that the Delta Smelt has longed been native to California. Due to Striped Bass introduction, water movement, and other man made causes, the species is on the the endangered species list. The Endangered Species Protection Act is upheld by the Supreme Court.

If the Delta Delta Smelt goes extinct... Further and unrepairable damage will occur to the current ecosystem.

But Orange Clown’s bade won’t get or comprehend that scientific information.

have long complained about water "diversions" from sierra rivers into the Bay or Pacific ocean to support wetlands, San Francisco Bay, and other estuaries.

Nothing at all to do with fire fighting of course... it's not like there is some State Water person telling the Forest Service or other firefighters that they can use the water from any lakes or rivers for fire fighting.

Of course, the central valley farmers would like to see more dams and reservoirs... but only to feed their insane farming practices ( growing almonds and rice in what is essentially a desert ).

The limit on firefighting has more to do with the amount of aircraft that is available and... the traffic control for those airplanes and helicopters over the forest fires. Not to mention that the wind can carry embers for miles... so there really isn't a way to stop a dry fuel forest fire with a lot of underbrush and a steady wind and low humidity.

And at least 20 to produce acorns to reseed.

The California live oak, a native, perennial tree to this area, is an amazing tree, highly adapted to these harsh conditions. They were a staple food source for the native Californians. Unlike the common or controlled burns, which just clear the underbrush and spare large trees, these kind of intense wildfires will wipe them out for generations, perhaps forever. Replanting is little help for a long time and in the meantime very few trees can survive under conditions that global warming is only making worse.
