NEBRASKA'S FIRST LETHAL INJECTION EXECUTION WILL USE NEW COCKTAIL OF DRUGS, INCLUDING FENTANYL

Officials in Nebraska as set to perform the first execution in the state in two decades using an untried cocktail of drugs.
Carey Dean Moore is scheduled to be executed on August 14 at the Nebraska State Penitentiary at any time between 12:01am and 11:59pm, KETV.com reported.
Moore has been on death row longer than any other prisoner in Nebraska and this is his seventh planned execution date. Moore, however, has no legal challenges pending against his death. He was handed the death penalty for the 1979 murder of Reuel Van Ness, Jr. and Maynard Helgeland, two taxi drivers in Omaha.
The last execution in Nebraska was death by electric chair in 1997. And Moores case marks the first time a lethal injection will be used in the state.

how is this experimental poisoning in any way more legitimate or humane than any of the three i just mentioned?

In Canada, we have assisted suicide and the doctors never seem to have an issue getting the drugs to perform these mercies. It is apparently a peaceful passing for those who opt in for that procedure.

(1,660 posts)There was NO problem with availability the meds (midazolam, propofol and rocuronium) and her death was completely peaceful. I don't understand the availability problem in the USA, unless the availability is blocked because of the intended end use.

(7,528 posts)I saw a British (I think) documentary about executions where the reporter underwent controlled hypoxia (removing the oxygen from an airtight chamber) and he said he felt "euphoric" and didn't have any idea what was happening. If they'd continued, he would have essentially gone to sleep and died from lack of oxygen feeling no major trauma at all. This is why they instruct people on flights to put on their own oxygen mask before assisting others - a person suffering low oxygen does not realize what's happening and can just go unconscious.
No drugs necessary at all. They can sit in what looks like a normal room and "fall asleep" in front of the TV for good.
