Ellison wins Minnesota AG primary amid late domestic violence allegations
Source: The Hill
Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) is projected to win the Democratic primary for Minnesota attorney general in a race that was marked by late-breaking allegations that he abused an ex-girlfriend, which he denied.
Ellison defeated four Democrats running in the primary to replace Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson, a Democrat whos running for governor, the Associated Press reported. He won 54 percent of the vote.
Ellison was the first Muslim elected to Congress in 2006 and is one of the most progressive members in the Democratic caucus. He made a bid to head the DNC but lost to Tom Perez last year, though he was later tapped by the former Secretary of Labor to be the deputy chairman of the organization.
Ellison endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the 2016 Democratic presidential primary, and the senator in turn campaigned for the Congressman last month.

(108,980 posts)The CNN article below says they talked to three woman who she'd told about the incident in the months after it happened.
If you think the GOP will drop this now, you haven't been paying attention. I've already had a Rethug throw this in my face today, in a completely unrelated discussion.

Asked again on Monday about the video, Monahan said she put it on a flash drive and packed it up in her previous home and couldn't immediately find it because it was in storage.
"It's not on me to show embarrassing and traumatizing video that impacts both families," Monahan told CNN on Monday.
Three friends of Monahan, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of backlash, told CNN she had confided in them about the bed incident in the months after she had moved out of Ellison's apartment.

Monahan provided one text of her mentioning the physical altercation to Ellison in December 2017.
"Keith, We never discussed -- the video I have of you trying to drag me off the bed, yelling get the f*** out now, calling me a bitch and saying I hate you bitch," the text message read. In follow up texts viewed by CNN, Ellison did not directly address the physical altercation.

(6,556 posts)He had 276,271 votes and his closest competitor had 105,168 votes. Many of the people I know who voted for him said that this coming out this late in the election cycle put them in mind of what happened to Al Franken and that was not going to go down without an ethics investigation this time. I am glad that his vote total was 2 1/2 times his nearest competitor. The fact that it was not a squeaker is a good thing, in my opinion. "Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us."

So I think it's a bit early to be relieved.

(6,556 posts)unlike Al Franken. In case you haven't noticed, once Al was forced out there is nothing but crickets on the allegations levied against him. Minnesota is not going to let a repeat of that happen without time for an investigation.
