Marco Rubio Gaffe: Government Over More Freedom at RNC Speech
Source: policymic
Marco Rubio delivered a powerful address at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, ahead of Mitt Romney's acceptance speech, but his great speech was cut short by a bad gaffe in which he directly contradicted his message.
In the final sentence of his speech, Rubio told voters that he dreamed about the day when there will be more "government over more freedom," with Mitt Romney in office. He clearly meant the opposite, that Republicans want more freedom over more government.
Convention goers were surprised by the remark. According to PolicyMic correspondent Nick McNiff, "The Rubio misstep about more government over more freedom really threw everyone off."
How the gaffe will play with voters remains to be seen. But, it was certainly confusing to listeners and goes against the Republican platform.
