Michael Moore Predicts 'President Romney' in November

Source: cbs news

WASHINGTON (CBS WASHINGTON) –Filmmaker Michael Moore predicted that the influence of money in politics will propel Mitt Romney to a victory over President Barack Obama in this year’s election.

In an interview with Huffington Post Live on Thursday, Moore said he believes if the election were conducted in an “American Idol” format where “America could vote from their couches,” then Obama would win the election easily.

“Mitt Romney is going to raise more money than Barack Obama. That should guarantee his victory,” Moore told HuffPost host Josh Zepps. “I think people should start to practice the words ‘President Romney.’ To assume that the other side is just a bunch of ignoramuses who are supported by people who believe that Adam and Eve rode on dinosaurs 6,000 years ago is to completely misjudge the opposition

Agreed! MONEY IS BEING USED TO RIG THIS ELECTION! However, we cannot change a Supreme Court ruling. We can't dismantle Fox News and it's affiliates. We can give until it hurts, and know without a doubt, that Obama is the best choice for the next four years. What is funny to me is that the folks who vote for Romney will get bit in the ass just as hard as the rest of us. It will just be a matter of time.

But I happen to think he is wrong. I don't believe that Governor Richy Rich and Father O'Ryan can win a majority vote, and frankly the attempts to suppress voters in this country who are presumed to be Democrats is not going over well at all. Nor the attempts to control the personal lives of women, or the outright lying about what they have and have not done. Or what Obama has or has not done. Or the previous (r) administration and how they royally fucked things up. I believe that enough people will be sufficiently upset and remember these things when they get to the polls. He has to be wrong, because if he isn't we are going to go live in Great Britain where my husband's family are. I couldn't bear it.

I've been thinking for a long time, we focus far too much on how "Rmoney can't win because of this and that", and far too little on how "Rmoney intends to win in spite of this and that." The second Ryan stepped up for the VP slot, it became obvious that the Rmoney campaign will try to win by shenanigans rather than popularity or demographic appeal. Their strategy consists of suppressing the minority vote and dropping huge-ass money bombs, while keeping Rmoney as far away from making any specific measurable committments as possible.

After what happened in Wisconsin this spring, we'd be fools to believe it can't work.

Fri Aug 31, 2012, 10:45 PM
Aug 2012

Attitudes and unnecessary aspersion like that against someone who, despite his flaws, has done many important things for the left, are actually what can turn many people off from involvment in politics and voting. Here's MM in the latest edition of Rolling Stone:

What are your thoughts on the presidential race?

I'm sure right about now Republicans are thinking, "Why the hell did we ever give women the vote?!" One of my Twitter followers wrote on my feed today. "In November, the Republicans are going to find out wha a real pussy riot is." When they writethe history of this election, it might come down to Todd Akin and these last few days. The gap between McCain and Obama on the women's vote was something like 14 percent. I wouldn't be surprised it if doubled this year. And that's good because Obama needs women to replace young voters.

You don't think young people will come out?

Enthusiasm is down because the person they voted for didn't come out swinging. He played "Kumbaya." I don't understand what part of "10 million vote mandate" he didn't understand. That's why I think this job is not going to be decided by independents. It's going to be about who does the best job of physically getting people out. If you could do an American Idol poll, where nobody had to get off the couch, Obama would probably still win. But that's not how we vote.

After a summer of the Romney campaign making a series of mistakes, is there a danger of over-confidence on the part of Obama supporters?

Yes. Republicans are relentless and they're smart, too - they're not all dumb - and on Election Day, they'll be up at five in the morning. The only way our side will see five in the morning is if we've stayed up all night partying. So I say don't get too cocky about Obama winning. You only have to look at what happened in Wisconsin a few months ago (when Republican Gov. Scott Walker staved off a recall). Everyone thought that was going to go the good way, and the bad guys won. The bad guys are very good at winning.

"Michael Moore is irrelevent." "He wears a ball cap." Just silly stuff.

When he steps up like that reprobate Bill Maher did, and puts a million of his lucre -- which he got from the wallets of Democrats, mostly-- on the table, then I'll listen to him. Until then, he is just a loudmouth doom-and-gloom whiner looking for self-aggrandizing publicity in a beat up ball cap. And if you think that's silly, whoop-de-doo for you. I've got some GOTV work to do. I have no time for people who whine, cry and say "Waaaaaaah, the Democrats are going to LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE."

Fuck Michael Moore, and his good buddy Ralph Nader. And fuck Ron Paul, too, so long as we're handing out wishes.

Winning elections is important — therefore, advocating in favor of Republican nominees or in favor of third-party spoiler candidates that could split the vote and throw an election to our conservative opponents is never permitted on Democratic Underground. But that does not mean that DU members are required to always be completely supportive of Democrats. During the ups-and-downs of politics and policy-making, it is perfectly normal to have mixed feelings about the Democratic officials we worked hard to help elect. When we are not in the heat of election season, members are permitted to post strong criticism or disappointment with our Democratic elected officials, or to express ambivalence about voting for them. In Democratic primaries, members may support whomever they choose. But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where were a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). For presidential contests, election season begins when both major-party nominees become clear. For non-presidential contests, election season begins on Labor Day. Everyone here on DU needs to work together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government. If you are bashing, trashing, undermining, or depressing turnout for our candidates during election season, we'll assume you are rooting for the other side.

Posts that tout and defend Michael Moore saying that Romney is going to win are bashing, trashing, and undermining Democrats, and depressing turnout.

He's not giving his money to charity--he's living in an enormous waterfront mansion and sitting on his dough.

He's not a champion for anyone but Michael Moore. His audience is people who like to rage against the machine--he wears the Everyman costume of jeans, a schlep shirt, a beat up old jacket and a ballcap that makes people believe he's "one of them." But he's not -- and he hasn't been since he made his first three million off "Roger and Me."

He is a wealthy, wealthy man who lives very well and has a massive bank account and a massive home. Of course he wants Romney to win--he'll have to pay more taxes otherwise, and a Romney presidency is GREAT for his bottom line....he can do another documentary that will appeal to people who make less than fifty grand a year, who still believe this multi millionaire is just like them.

Feh. He can sit down and shut up. I don't want to hear his Negative Nancy whining and griping. I have work to do, electing Democrats to Congress and getting Obama a 2nd term. He might try it sometime instead of shooting off his big mouth.

It doesn't matter that the rePIGs can raise more campaign money than we can. If we can pay the bills with what we raise, then overdesign won't be necessary. That's the point. Mike seems bent on making "overkill" the enemy of "adequate." That's a variation of, "Making perfect the enemy of the good."

There is the problem of buying radio and tv spots from the major networks. It may come down to who wants to pay more, and who can't afford to pay the asking (jacked up or not) price...Something like that might become a problem. There must be laws regulating the selling of "airtime" that keeps things in check.. I would hope so at least. So, don't become disheartened by all the money being raised by the rePIGs. If we can raise enough to "pay the bills," that's sufficient. I don't like what "Citizens United" allows, but I don't believe that organized money can triumph over organized people. Stay vigilant, and don't let the bastards grind you down.

The Republican party has been hollowed out from within by the "Christian Right" and the "Neoconservative Movement."
The independents will go for the Democrats because the Republicans are so vacuous and have been nothing but obstructionist in the last few years.
It's better to heave a stone out of the way than vote for it.
And the Republicans amount to nothing but stones in a creek, accruing debt, forcing others to accrue debt, and shoring up misery.
If they believe so much in the power of the private sector, then let them get out of government in order to try to validate their claims.
I want people who believe in government to govern.
I want people who disparage government as far from governing as possible.
Every argument they make is for and about the private sector-- so get the Republican tyrants out of Washington and out of every political capitol in this country.

Fri Aug 31, 2012, 10:53 AM

I remember then Senator/Candidate Obama pledging to support a filibuster of the FISA amendments.

Last year, after phone calls from MoveOn members and others, Obama went so far as to vow to "support a filibuster of any bill that includes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies."4 We need him to honor that promise.

These companies helped the Bush Administration illegally spy on the emails and phone calls of innocent Americans. By giving "immunity" to these companies, all lawsuits brought against them by civil liberties groups would be thrown out of court. That means we may never find out how far Bush went in breaking the law. And once it's done, it can't be undone. That's why we need Obama to promise to block any bill that has immunity.

Supporters of today's deal say it doesn't guarantee immunity—it just kicks the issue to a court to decide. But that's deceptive. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) points out:

"It gives attorney general the power to decide if cases against telecommunications companies will proceed. The AG only has to certify to the FISA court that the company didn't spy or did so with a permission slip from the president. A note from the president is not a legal defense. Allowing phone companies to avoid litigation by simply presenting a 'permission slip' from the president is not court review."5

Instead, he voted to give retroactive immunity to telecommunication companies.

What the fuck?

"It's chess! The Republicans would use it against him! We'll fix it later!"

((Domestic surveillance is an important issue for me. It's why I started studying politics. The vote on the FISA amendments was very significant. Here's the kicker: the amendments were due to sunset, and when they did, FISA would have returned to pre-Bushian status. All that was necessary was to hold up the vote. (Reid could have chosen not to bring it up, but that's another matter.))

Filibustering cloture and doing nothing would have fixed everything, yet Obama chose to break his promise and vote for retroactive immunity, i.e. a "Get Out of Jail Free" card for fucking telecommunication companies.

Not really surprising, actually, when one learns that Obama ($267,711)

99. I'm sure his tune will change after the Democratic Convention.

He's so busy watching college kids that he ignores the biggest group of non-voters out there. Women. Some hate politics in general because they think it's nasty. Those are the one's likely to vote for Obama over the "rape" issue. Plus, they really do like Michelle and the kids.

Have you heard the CHEERS from women when they even see a PICTURE of them together?

Just watch the reaction when she goes on Ellen.

Speaking of, when is Ann Romney going to go on Ellen? Don't want to miss THAT.

Telling of the "slackers" he goes on about not bothering to vote this year because they aren't as enthusiastic.

The problem with young slackers is that some are curious to see what would happen if Romney really got in.

You know,...just for the hell of it...

A warning would say, "Romney COULD win, so we need to get our butts to the polls..."

Saying outright you believe Romney will win, no matter what, is essentially signaling to the base, the left, to stay home because this election is over.

And I don't believe that was his intent.

I doubt he's drooling at the chance to make a movie about Romney's Presidency either,...even if it would make a lot of money.

trying to get us to donate more to Obama. Maybe putting a little fear in us so maybe we can reach in our pockets some more. Got an email today huge amount Obama got for this month. Didn't say how much. Got an email from the President today saying this is our last chance to get money for the campaign. Romney says another email is getting 3 to 1 in monies for the swing states. I still hope Obama wins. It will be a nightmare if he does not. Donate whatever you can.

126. This is exactly what the Republicans want to hear...

An influential liberal telling liberals it doesn't matter how hard you work, how much time you invest, nothing you do is going to change the fact Romney will win - it's set in stone. This is exactly what Republicans are banking on ... a dispirited, defeatist base that's decided there is no point in voting because Obama is done.

Fuck Moore. Moore is being dangerous with his baseless opinion and setting up liberals to fail. The defeatism on the left is way more concerning than the overconfidence. I'm afraid so many liberals are quick to say Obama will lose because they want, when it's all said and done, to point to that loss and say, "see, told you so!"

Let's be honest, Mr. Moore has no dog in this race. He doesn't give a rat's ass if Obama wins or Romney wins. He's rich...his child is rich...he doesn't have to worry about being sent off to war and he doesn't have to worry about his child losing good healthcare. He doesn't have to worry about a gutted economy putting him in the poor house and he certainly doesn't have to worry about having his rights, either as a woman, or a gay person, taken away.

Moore is in it for himself. He was in it for himself in 2000 and he's in it for himself now. That's the only way I could explain his comment. And this isn't even a warning comment to tell us we need to work harder ... he's outright conceding this fucking thing. That isn't going to make people work harder or get liberals to the polls...it's going to make them sit home come November.

It's sad that Moore has to do damage like this. What's worse is I see it here on DU all the time. Better give up, because Romney will probably win! He'll either buy the election or steal it! So, what's the point of voting if it's already in the bag?

And that's what Republicans are counting on. Way to give them a new talking point, Michael.

"Hey, even Michael Moore doesn't believe Obama can win!"
